Dublin parent, resident and technology executive Ramnath “Ram” Shanbhogue said he is running for the Dublin Unified School District Area 1 trustee seat for many reasons, but mostly to do right for Dublin students.

Shanbhogue told the Pleasanton Weekly there are a lot of areas for improvement and he would like to be the voice at the school board that brings up all of these issues that are affecting students, staff and the community.

“I am deeply concerned about the current state of our district’s governance,” he said. “I have observed a troubling pattern of the Board of Trustees and the superintendent disregarding facts, sidestepping concerns and making decisions without adequately considering the perspectives of parents, students and teachers.”

Shanbhogue is competing against Kristian Reyes for the Area 1 seat on the southwest side of the district. The race is wide open, with Trustee Kristin Pelham drawn out of Area 1 during the redistricting process in 2022.

A first-time candidate, Shanbhogue has been a Dublin resident for the past 10 years after having lived, studied and worked in various cities across Northern California. He is a father of two kids who attend DUSD schools.

According to his Linkedin, he works at Expedia Group, an American travel technology company, as the senior director of software engineering. He said his 25 years of experience in the technology sector having worked at small and large companies have given him the diverse experience and leadership skills needed for the DUSD school board seat.

“My extensive leadership experience has equipped me with the skills to devise creative solutions to complex challenges, foster consensus, and rally people to execute effectively,” Shanbhogue said. “These skills will be invaluable in my role as a trustee, helping to drive positive outcomes for our school district.”

He also said his work as an assistant coach for his daughter’s soccer team, chaperoning school trips, getting involved with the standards-based grading system at board meetings, shows how dedicated he is to his community.

As Shanbhogue said, he is running for the seat because of several issues he has seen in the district.

“There have been significant security issues and numerous parental complaints that have not been taken seriously or addressed appropriately,” he added. “It is evident that there are systemic problems that need to be resolved.”

Some of his main priorities that he would like to address as trustee, if he is elected, are student safety, amplifying community voices and fiscal stewardship.

“Proactive fiscal management is essential. I will work diligently to address deficits while safeguarding educational quality,” Shanbhogue said. “I will champion open dialogue, transparency, and collaboration to address challenges head-on.”

But at the end of the day, he said his main commitment and motivation to run for the trustee position is simple: He wants to do right by the children.

“I am not driven by political agendas but by a genuine desire to serve,” Shanbhogue said. “Let’s make decisions based on what benefits our students most.”

He said he wants to create an educational environment where everyone can succeed by advocating for the needs of teachers and students.

“My vision for the Dublin Unified School District is to ensure that every decision made by the board is inclusive of community voices and focused on the well-being and growth of every student,” Shanbhogue said. “I am committed to enhancing student safety, improving fiscal management, and fostering transparency and collaboration.”
