The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has officially charged the Pleasanton man accused of fatally shooting his 61-year-old father with murder.

Lucas Chan, 28, is facing multiple charges including first-degree murder – which also includes a sentencing enhancement for allegedly firing a gun – and six felony counts of allegedly possessing explosive devices in a home near populated locations, according to the criminal complaint from the DA’s office.

The charges related to possession of explosive devices stem from the county sheriff’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team finding “multiple explosive devices and substances and materials to make a destructive device inside the home, allegedly in possession of the defendant,” a press release from the DA’s office said.

Lucas Chan remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail without bail and is currently awaiting his plea hearing set for next Wednesday (Aug. 27) at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin.

The case unfolded when Pleasanton officers responded to a 911 call on Aug. 15 about a shooting on the 4600 block of Helpert Court. Upon arrival, officers found Lance Chan, 61, shot in his home. Lucas Chan was immediately arrested at the scene.

Police previously said that preliminary witness accounts indicated the shooting was “preceded by a verbal dispute.”

The fatal shooting marks the city’s second homicide this year involving alleged parricide. On April 1, Malcolm Ian Tilley, 31, of Pleasanton turned himself in to police, reportedly confessing to the brutal stabbing of his mother. Tilley was charged with first-degree murder and other allegations. He has since entered a plea of not guilty and is awaiting his pretrial hearing set for Sept. 2.
