Educational Options Center
Demolition has officially begun at Village High School as part of the Pleasanton Unified School District’s Measure I bond-funded project to turn the site into the Educational Options Center, a space that will house the continuation school along with other similar PUSD alternative education programs.
Last month, the Pleasanton school board awarded Swinerton Builders, a construction company based in Santa Clara, with a $2,235,800 contract — funded by the $395 million bond — to begin demolishing the site.
The scope of work for the project includes tearing down 10 buildings, including the STEAM Preschool and administration buildings.
Utility discount program
The city of Pleasanton is offering residents free, in-person help navigating the city’s new Utility Discount Program, which offers a 30% discount on water and sewer charges for income-qualified households.
This program, which takes effect March 1, replaces the city’s existing senior and low-income utility discount programs that both end on Feb. 28. All current discount recipients must reapply under the new program to continue receiving discounts.
The event, which takes place Wednesday (Jan. 28) at 3333 Busch Road from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., will allow residents to ask staff questions about the new program, confirm their eligibility and get help throughout the application process.
In order to qualify for the program, households must enroll in the PG&E CARE Program, be a Pleasanton utility customer and meet certain usage and residency requirements. Residents are encouraged to bring information to confirm those requirements to the Jan. 28 event.

Castlewood’s 100th
The Club at Castlewood is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a series of events throughout 2026.
The festivities get underway next weekend with a sold out 1920s speakeasy event for members only.
“‘A Century of Tradition. A Lifetime of Memories.’ isn’t just our tagline — it’s what Castlewood represents. This kickoff is our chance to honor 100 years of history, bring our members together, and launch an exciting year of celebration and new memories,” Amber Lindsey, director of administration and finance, told the Pleasanton Weekly.
Other events on the calendar so far include a couple’s golf tournament in May, a family-focused “Dude Ranch Day” in September and the “Centennial Gala” in November.
LARPD master plan survey
The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District is inviting residents, park users and other community members to provide feedback on how they use the agency’s various parks, facilities, programs and trails in order to “understand priorities for future investment and planning over the next ten years.”
According to a press release from the agency, the input from the community-wide survey will be used to update LARPD’s Parks, Recreation, and Trails Master Plan. The survey will be available for anyone who lives, works or visits the Livermore area through Feb. 1.
“Community input is an important part of this planning process,” LARPD General Manager Mathew Fuzie said in a press release. “The feedback we receive will help inform long-term planning and investment decisions as we update the Master Plan.”
To learn more about the master plan, which will serve as a guiding document for future decisions regarding LARPD’s amenities, and to participate in the survey visit www.larpd.org/master-plan-update.
