2025 pavement work highlights

The city of Pleasanton completed its annual Pavement Management Program earlier this month after having treated nearly two million square feet of city streets throughout the entire year, according to the city’s December e-newsletter.

“These enhancements ensure safer, smoother roads for drivers while preserving Pleasanton’s infrastructure,” the e-newsletter stated.

The city reported that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of 1.1 million square feet of pavement on 20 residential, industrial and arterial streets was slated for completion last Monday (Dec. 15). According to the e-newsletter the city also repaired and sealed “0.75 million square feet of roadway pavement to preserve and extend the life of our streets”.

“Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to invest in Pleasanton’s infrastructure and maintain the roads that keep our community moving,” the city stated in its e-newsletter.

West Coast Jamboree celebrating 25 years

Visit Tri-Valley is set to host the 25th annual West Coast Jamboree girls basketball tournament at various locations throughout the Tri-Valley between Saturday (Dec. 27) and Tuesday (Dec. 30) — there will be no games Sunday.

According to the West Coast Jamboree website, the event — which first started in 2000 — is considered one of the “largest high school basketball tournaments in the country.” In a Dec. 16 press release, the organization said during the last two decades, the program has generated over $1 million for local high schools and the tournament has provided over $40,000 in scholarships to girls who have participated in the tournament.

“We are extremely excited to be partnered with such a prestigious event for a fifth year,” Todd Dibs, director of sports development at Visit Tri-Valley, said in the Dec. 16 press release. “We are equally excited to be able to showcase our region to all the great teams traveling here for the tournament.”

Of note, this year’s sponsor for the event’s scholarship program will be the Bay Area’s very own Golden State Valkyries. High school seniors who play in this year’s jamboree who meet certain financial, community service and GPA criteria will have the opportunity to earn up to $5,000 in scholarships.

This year’s event will feature 12 divisions and 96 teams who will compete at seven high school gyms across Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Those gyms in the Tri-Valley include Dublin High School, Emerald High School, Granada High School, Livermore High School and the Robert Livermore Community Center.

Dirty Cello at Art Freak Studio

If you’re a music fan but don’t care for the loud or long-lasting setting of a typical concert, then consider checking out the Dirty Cello upcoming performance at a contemporary art studio in Fremont on Jan. 9.

Presented by Not Loud Concerts, an East Bay event organizer that promotes more casual, quieter shows that don’t last for hours, the show will feature the unique art at Art Freak Studio — located at 37819 Niles Blvd. in Fremont — with the subtle musical backdrop of the duo behind Dirty Cello.

According to the promotional items for the show, the band will showcase their brand of “soulful blues, wild rock, lightning-fast Americana, and of course, stories of their travels.”

“Never formal, and never too long, this concert will be held in a comfy and casual venue with intimate acoustics and a welcoming vibe,” according to a press release from Not Loud Concerts.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and last for an hour. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. so that people can explore the art at the venue. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.notloudconcerts.com.
