Last paper of 2025

This will be the Pleasanton Weekly’s final print edition for 2025. Following past practice, we have opted for a larger special issue this week that includes our Year in Review, a recap of all the stories we have covered this year.

Following a short break from the newspaper production during the week of Christmas, the print paper will be back as usual on Jan. 2. However, news coverage won’t stop in the interim as our journalists will continue to write articles online and weekday Express emails will continue, except for Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Visit PleasantonWeekly.com to see all of the big stories, and we will see you again in print in 2026. Happy holidays!

Tree pickups

The city of Pleasanton recently shared multiple options for residents to dispose of their Christmas trees following the holiday season.

Members of the public can reach out to the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 941 who will pick up trees from residents on Jan. 3, starting at 8 a.m., as part of their recycling fundraiser. Reservations are required, and the trees cannot have any decorations.

Residents can also place their trees at the curb on their regular Pleasanton Garbage Service collection day between Jan. 5 and Jan. 9. Those trees must be cut to 4 feet or less and be clean of any decorations. Trees with flocking or tinsel cannot be recycled and residents will have to call PGS to find out about other disposal options.

After the holidays, residents can also add their trees to their green waste containers, but the trees must, again, be the proper size and free of any decorations.

Take Us Along display

The Pleasanton Weekly’s popular Take Us Along feature, which encourages readers to pose with their newspaper on vacation, is being highlighted in a new display at the Museum on Main as part of its current exhibition, “Greetings from Everywhere”.

The exhibit is set to run through Jan. 3 in downtown Pleasanton. The Weekly donated the bulk of its Take Us Along physical archive to the museum in recent years before an office consolidation.

Holiday posada

The Pleasanton-Tulancingo Sister City Association, an organization founded in 1983 to forge an international bond between Pleasanton and Tulancingo, Mexico, will be hosting its free holiday posada this Sunday (Dec. 21) from 7-9 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building.

A posada is a Mexican and South American traditional re-enactment of Joseph and Mary’s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a safe place where Mary could give birth to Jesus. The free event will be open to all families who wish to participate in traditional festivities and Christmas carols.

DUI checkpoint in Dublin

Dublin Police Services will be conducting a driving under the influence (DUI) checkpoint this Friday (Dec. 19) at an undisclosed location within the city from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

According to a press release, DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on “data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.”

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” DPS Capt. Miguel Campos said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
