Entrepreneur John Morada claimed victory of the Dublin City Council seat in District 3, edging Razi Hasni by just over 100 votes in the two-person election.
“I am proud of the hard work and dedication of my volunteers, neighbors, friends and family,” Morada said in the statement reflecting on his win. “Their efforts have paid off, and I am energized to officially begin serving the citizens of Dublin.”
With election certification still pending but the vast majority of ballots tabulated, Morada stood at 2,440 votes (51.43%) to Hasni’s 2,304 votes (48.57%) as of Monday evening.
As for Morada’s early priorities, he said he will be attentive to a pending lawsuit against Measure II, the “Dublin Traffic Relief, Clean Air/Open Space Preservation Measure” that passed with 53.11% Yes votes.
Further out on the horizon, Morada said he would like to work with the city’s economic development team with its infill strategy.
In the unopposed race for District 1, Mayor Michael McCorriston will reclaim his prior regular seat on the City Council. He will take over for Janine Thalblum, who was appointed to the dais in June following the transition of former mayor Melissa Hernandez to the BART Board of Directors and McCorriston’s ascension to the mayoral chair by temporary appointment.

McCorriston, who followed through on his vow to run for a council seat in the Nov. 5 election rather than join the crowded mayoral field ultimately won by Sherry Hu, said on his website that he will prioritize public safety, economic development, affordable housing and environmental sustainability in his second term on the council.
“Dublin is in a critical stage of development, and we have an opportunity to build a model city through well-thought planning,” McCorriston wrote on his website. “If we take a holistic view of our community’s needs our success is assured.”
