New leadership is coming to the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce, with the Board of Directors announcing Monday that it was moving on from President/CEO James Cooper after 2-1/2 years at the helm.

Board chair Shawn Henley shared the news in an afternoon email to chamber members, saying the directors “after thoughtful deliberation” opted not to renew Cooper’s contract. A reason for the break was not revealed, with Henley adding, “We deeply appreciate James Cooper for his contributions during his time with us and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”
“As we move forward, we are more energized than ever about the future of the Pleasanton Chamber,” Henley, who represents The Tri-Valley Group at Morgan Stanley on the chamber, wrote in the email.
“With talented and dedicated Chamber staff leading the way, and a thriving membership base of over 600 strong, we are poised for continued growth and success,” he added. “Our team remains fully committed to delivering the exceptional services, networking opportunities, and advocacy you’ve come to expect.”
Attempts to contact Cooper for comment on Monday were unsuccessful. He joined the Pleasanton chamber in June 2022, coming aboard with prior experience running the chambers of commerce in American Canyon, Vallejo and Benicia.
It was not immediately clear who will be leading the chamber in the interim as the board recruits for the next permanent president/CEO.
“Together, we are building a dynamic, innovative Chamber that plays a key role in supporting our local businesses and creating new opportunities for all members. The strength of our community and the collective drive of our members ensure that we will continue to flourish in the months and years ahead,” Henley said.
Pleasanton becomes the second Tri-Valley chamber to change leaders this week. Danielle Cook started the job as president/CEO of the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce on Monday — a move announced last month, with Heidi Kenniston-Lee leaving after 17 months at the helm to refocus on her own business, Heidi’s Hutch.
And it was one year ago last week that the Livermore Valley Chamber of Commerce officially hired Sherri Souza as permanent president/CEO, removing her interim tag after some 10 months.
