Classical music fans in the Tri-Valley will have the opportunity to learn more about the influence of Italian minds – and fingers – on piano compositions from the very beginning during a special benefit show supporting Valley Concert Chorale this weekend.

Renowned pianist Daniel Glover, who has performed around the world and recorded 10 solo albums in his career, is presenting a deep dive into the evolution of Italian composers that mixes entertainment and educational enlightenment, according to VCC reps.
“Mr. Glover’s piano concerts are always a popular event,” Sarah Allendorf, VCC board president, said in a press release. “He is an internationally known concert pianist and has a great following around the world. We are so very fortunate to have him as the Chorale’s accompanist for so many years and we enjoy offering the community an opportunity to experience his great talent each year.”
VCC positions Glover’s “Viva l’Italia” show as a testimonial to “the tremendous impact that Italy’s literature, art and culture made on the history of the piano … Did you know that the piano was invented in Italy in the early 1700s?”
“Featured composers include Italians from the Baroque to 20th Century: Alessandro Marcello, Muzio Clementi and Alfredo Casella. Three technically dazzling Etudes by Schumann and Liszt/Busoni will display the tremendous influence Niccolò Paganini’s virtuoso violin playing had on the Romantic virtuoso pianists,” VCC reps said. “The program will also include works inspired by specific places in Italy.”
The Glover concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 24) at First Presbyterian Church, 2020 Fifth St. in Livermore. For tickets and more information, go to valleyconcertchorale.org.
