Become immersed in the magical world of Arabic folklore with an upcoming production of the classic Disney animated film ‘Aladdin’ at the Pleasanton Amador Theater.
The Pleasanton Youth Theater Company will be presenting ‘Aladdin KIDS’ at the Amador venue from Jan. 26 to 28. Morning, afternoon and evening show times are available on all three days.
Based on the Arabic folktale (and the 1992 animated movie of the same name), the play follows the story of a young street urchin, who tries to capture the attention of the beautiful princess Jasmine.
The urchin, Aladdin, finds a magic lamp that holds a powerful genie. He enlists the help of the genie’s magic in an attempt to woo the princess. The show features an Academy Award winning music score by Alan Menken.
The City of Pleasanton launched the Youth Theater Company in 2019 as a way to offer educational theater programs to local youths.
“Students (of PYTC) learn the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication,” said representatives. “This program emphasizes creativity and self-expression, allowing young performers to explore their artistic potential and discover their unique voices.”
The PYTC said the program aims to provide a safe and nurturing environment for kids to develop and explore their theatrical talents. Students are able to learn from theater professionals about character development, improvisation, vocal projection and various other skills.
“Our youth theater programs provide opportunities for students to showcase their talents in front of supportive audiences, fostering a sense of accomplishment and pride,” added representatives.
According to the youth theater company, the program is open to students of all skill levels, if they are looking to develop a career in performing arts or not.
“Whether participants aspire to pursue a career in theater, or simply want to explore their creativity, our youth theater programs create a vibrant and inclusive community where young performers can grow, learn and create unforgettable memories,” they said.
Youths participate in workshops, rehearsals and live performances throughout the year. The company has produced shows such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer JR, Annie KIDS, School of Rock and Frozen.
Later this year, the theater company plans to do Winnie the Pooh and High School Musical.
