The Davin-Levin Duo will bring its distinctive blend of harp and guitar to the Bankhead Theater on Nov. 14.
The chamber music concert will feature the ensemble’s own commissions and arrangements of pieces by Philip Glass, Florence Price, Jonathan Cziner, Maurice Ravel and Manuel de Falla.
Colin Davin, an associate professor of guitar and director of the guitar studio at Shenandoah Conservatory, and Emily Levin, the principal harpist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, first met in 2012 at the Aspen Music Festival. They began performing together as the Davin-Levin Duo in 2015 and released their debut album, “Banter,” in 2020.
The duo has been recognized as a standout of the genre for its musical chemistry and dynamic performances that highlight the similarities and differences between the two stringed instruments. Davin and Levin have also expanded the limited repertoire of works for harp and guitar with their commissions and arrangements.
The program for the Nov. 14 Livermore concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m., includes Price’s “Three Roses,” Glass’s Etude No. 6 and Etude No. 20, Ravel’s “Alborada del gracioso” and de Falla’s “El Amor Brujo,” all arranged by the duo. Davin and Levin will also perform a commissioned work by Cziner called “Wanderlust” and Pujol’s “Suite Mágica.”
Tickets are $35-$57, free for youth under the age of 21.
The concert is the second in Del Valle Fine Arts’ 2026-27 season, which continues with three other chamber music ensembles. The Akropolis Reed Quintet is set to play on Feb. 6, followed by the Duo Beaux Arts on March 20. The Jupiter String Quartet will close out the season on April 24.
