One person died when the sedan they were riding in collided with a tractor-trailer truck near the eastern edge of Alameda County outside Mountain House on Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP-Dublin investigators are actively looking for witnesses to come forward as they work to piece together what happened on Mountain House Road not far from the border with San Joaquin County.
Calls came in just after noon Friday (Sept. 25) about a major crash involving a big-rig and a car on Mountain House Road north of West Grant Line Road, according to the CHP. When officers arrived, they found the aftermath of the wreck between a southbound white 2014 Freightliner Cascadia tractor with two end-dump trailers and a northbound tan 2004 Honda Civic.
“For an unknown reason, a broadside crash occurred within the southbound lane of traffic, and the Honda sustained catastrophic damage,” CHP-Dublin officials said. “Fatal injuries were sustained to a passenger of the Honda.”
The identity of the decedent has not yet been released publicly, nor have the names of either driver. CHP officials said both drivers remained at the scene and have cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
The circumstances of the fatal collision remain under active investigation. “The CHP is asking for your help with any information regarding this crash,” officials said. “We appreciate the public’s assistance in these investigations, and often, your help can answer questions that remain unanswered.”
