The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District recently completed a $25 million campus improvement project at Marylin Avenue STEAM Academy, district officials announced last week.
The improvements include new and renovated classrooms, STEAM labs, research center, a library in support of Marylin’s STEAM magnet program, a new parking lot and drop-off area, field renovation, futsal courts and TK playground, according to district officials.
To show off the renovations, the district is hosting a community open house later this month where attendees can take self-guided tours of the campus.
“We look forward to welcoming the community to our campus,” Marylin principal Joe Meunier said in a statement. “These investments are making our STEAM magnet program stronger, our campus safer and bolstering the sense of pride our students and staff have in the school they learn and work in every day.”
Renovations at Marylin were possible thanks to state bond funding, which reimbursed LVJUSD for work originally financed through the voter-approved Measure J from 2016.
“This project is a perfect example of how we were able to extend the impact of local investment by acquiring state money to improve our schools for our students and community,” Superintendent Torie Gibson said in a statement.
The work at Marylin was the district’s final, major facility improvement project supported by state funding tied to Measure J, according to district officials. Additional state funds and continuing districtwide facility improvements will require the pursuit of a new bond with community support.
The open house at Marylin is scheduled to run from 4:30-6 p.m. next Wednesday (Sept. 17) at 800 Marylin Ave. Site and district staff will be available to answer questions.
