Rage U11 Premier remain undefeated

Winning their toughest game yet, the U11 Premier team kept their undefeated streak alive last weekend. It wasn’t easy, but in the end the Rage walked away with a well-deserved 4-3 win over the Antioch Dynamite. The first half was rough going when the Dynamite quickly scored two early goals, but the Rage answered with Amy Schoendienst’s well-placed assist to Ryan Murphy.

In the second half they really turned up the heat when Haley Okumura kicked a high ball towards the penalty box enabling Shanece Hunsaker to tap it in for a winner. The Dynamite came back to score their third goal putting them in the lead temporarily, suddenly with the speed of a gazelle Shanece Hunsaker took off down the field to even up the game 3-3. Sarah Broacha and Sam Frost both did an excellent job of keeping the ball forward, while Tiara Lewis kept the Dynamites main scoring threat under control, a sensational block from Haley stopped her cold in her tracks. The defense of Ariana Nino, Lorna Roberts and Juliet Allen denied the Dynamite any more scoring opportunities; a beautiful assist from Jo Salinas to Shanece Hunsaker finished the game off with the Rage winning 4-3.

The newly energized defense, led by Randy Copeman, Frank Morley, and Yashar Benham, held off the Scorpions’ furious attempt at a rally for the 1-0 victory.

BUSC U16s dominate Alliance Tecos 6-0

On Sunday, Ballistic United U-16s hosted the once formidable Alliance Tecos from Union City at the Sports Park. They made a bright start playing with the advantage of a slight slope. After a period of concerted pressure, they finally broke through after eight minutes when Jason Chow crossed from the left wing for Colin Hartland to chest home from close range. Chow was again the provider some 10 minutes later when he drove into the penalty area and pulled the ball back for Seth Niermeyer to tap home easily. Ballistic continued to dominate play and were duly rewarded with a third goal after 34 minutes when a free-kick by Connor O’Neil found its way to Colin Hartland, who curled his shot round the diving keeper and into the net. Just before halftime Chris Franzella delighted the home crowd by wriggling free of his marker and chipping the goalkeeper to round off the first half in style. Ballistic led at halftime by 4-0. They would go on to score two more for a 6-0 victory.

BUSC U19 Select defeat Castro Valley United 4-0

Jared Chinn had a fantastic game scoring twice in leading Ballistic United’s U19s over Castro Valley Saturday. The Pleasanton boys controlled the flow of the game early with a dazzling display of possession. The central midfield combination of Jonathan Ramirez, Brodie Roberts and Jason Scott completely outclassed their opponents with precision combination plays that freed up the wingers. Chinn’s first brace came in the 17th minute courtesy of Troy Stetson’s cross from the right side. Chinn took the cross first time, putting a volley through at the back post.

Ballistic United continued to keep the pressure on with Castro Valley seeing little of the ball. The final brace of the half was a brilliant goal by Chinn setup by Albert Lin’s corner in the 45th minute with seconds remaining. One goal came when Morgan Dorsey and Kim Denne put pressure on the Diablo defense, forcing the keeper out, allowing Breahna Berry to slip one past her. The other when the speedy Breahna slipped past the Diablo defense. The stingy defense of Sara Ramirez, Alyssa Malfatti, Victoria Piazza, Laura Yoshida, Jillian Johnson and keeper Megan Piper kept opposing team shots to a minimum. Forwards Danielle Paxton and Brittany, Carrolan had great shots on goal while midfielders Kira Capaccioli, Brittany Repac, Amanda Briones, Sarah May, Chrissy Waite and Paisley Miller controlled the center.

Rage U14 AC try to surprise Strikers, but drop game 1-0

Pleasanton Rage U14 AC tried to surprise Rocklin Strikers with 3-5-2 formation during last Sunday’s matchup. Defensively, it worked in the first half but offensively it resulted with only one attempt at goal by Rachel Reichenbach. Cassie Santana saved empty goal and Olivia Brown made a few very good saves. Dani Leedeman played her best game so far and, supported by reliable Paige Hughes, managed to keep the result at 0-0. In the first minute of the second half the game was decided. Rocklin forwards exchanged passes and scored for the final result of 1-0. Rage could not keep or pass the ball to carry it into the opponent’s field. Excellent performance by Olivia and Dani and solid defense by Paige and Cassie, prevented Rocklin of scoring more times.

Rage U14AC on their best performance, but fall to Green Machine

Despite losing the game 1-0 Saturday, Pleasanton Rage U14 AC team played their best game in the league, especially in the first half. The physically bigger and stronger Castro Valley Green Machine was completely outplayed by precise passing and keeping the ball on the ground. Rage’s defense stopped every serious try by the opponent and was able to transfer the ball into the middle of the field. Kayla Cerri led the defense in the first part of the first half, very well supported by Paige Hughes, Dani Leedeman and Cassie Santana. Good passing allowed several promising opportunities for Rage’s offense. Mathea Turkalj dribbled through the middle, kicked to the goal but after a short bounce Machine’s goalie was able to catch the ball. The second half started with attacks by the Machine’s offensive line resulting in change of Rage’s game. The ball was kicked in the air and usually recovered by the Machine, creating constant pressure on the defense. Hannah Jackson made two excellent corners, but were not finalized. A difference in the size proved to be major difference towards the end. In the last five minutes, one opportunity given to the best Machine player resulted with the winning goal in the upper corner of Olivia’s Brown goal.

The BUSC U13 Div. III Select team went 1-1 last weekend with a loss to Heritage Vipers 2-0 and a win against the Mustang Vipers 4-1. There were numerous shots on goal that came extremely close to being scores for Ballistic with one shot hitting the cross bar and almost bouncing into the goal and a header barely missing at the left post. Sometimes soccer is a game of breaks where the final score doesn’t reflect the losing teams overall performance. Two minutes later, Deguchi steered a pass in front of the goal, where forward Damian Johnson corralled a carom off teammate Tyler Kline and slapped it into the right corner of the goal. The Renegades put the game out of reach when defenseman Brandon Larson steered a long pass up the left sideline to a streaking Johnson for a breakaway. The goalie deflected his angling shot, but Deguchi pounced on the rebound for the first of two Renegade goals off shots deflected by the goalie. Meanwhile, the Rapids defense bent but allowed only six shots and refused to yield a goal. When the game was still in doubt, the Renegades right forward chased down an errant pass and broke into the open for a one-on-one shot, but goalie David Koidal stepped out to cut down the angle, then snared the unobstructed chest-high line drive.

PJFL Broncos charge into 1st place

The Pleasanton Junior Football League Intermediate division Broncos were victorious Saturday afternoon in the battle for first place against the Colts, winning 12-0 with their third consecutive shutout.

The Broncos defense came on strong holding the Colts’ first possession to four plays with Ryan Jenkins-Wilburn making the first big tackle of the game. Other big tackles by Alex Lazzereschi, Sam Tarasow, Deangelo Ty and Nick Massie kept the Colts from gaining significant yardage.

The offense came alive in the second period when Napoleon Kaufman broke through the Colts’ defense, thanks to blocks by Alex Narvani, Cameron Beck, Colby Gilbert, Craig Gin, Jordan Reed, Alex Omo and Ashwin Anand, and ran 55 yards for the first TD. Cory Barrios drove up the middle for the extra point but hit a wall of Colts that stopped him in his tracks. The defense played most of the remaining time in the half with Jake Massie, Alex Crepeau, Frankie Banks, Barrios and Kaufman each making multiple tackles. Barrios came up with an interception just as the first half ended.

It was all defense in the third quarter as neither team scored.  The Colts’ offense began making strides, but Andrew Lambert, in a key defensive play, broke up the Colts fourth down pass attempt halting a second first down conversion. The Broncos took over at their 26 and Brian Bergman dove up the middle to gain six yards. On third down, Barrios busted though the Colts’ with a huge 35 yard run, and two plays later, dashed toward the end zone only to be pushed out at the corner marker as the third period ended.

It was first and goal at the start of the fourth and Barrios punched through for the score. The Colts’ pressure upset an extra point pass attempt by Ronnie Jones to Bergman in the end zone. The Colts’ offense then turned up the heat, making the Broncos’ defense work hard to keep them scoreless. Crepeau, Lambert, Lazzereschi, Banks, and the Massie twins stayed in the fight with several tackles each. With the Colts inside the Broncos’ 10, they threatened to score with a pass play, but Jenkins-Wilburn broke up the fourth down attempt in the end zone with just 2:14 remaining in the game. The Broncos answered back with Barrios’ 48 yard sideline dash. Jones finished out the game with two big running plays into Colt territory.
