Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

With nearly triple-digit temperatures across the Tri-Valley this week and continuing into the weekend, the city of Pleasanton has plans in place to open “cool zones” for people to beat the heat.

When temperatures reach over 100 degrees over two consecutive days, or when unexpected high temperatures occur, the city will activate the cooling centers, said city spokeswoman Joanne Hall. Due to the unseasonably high temperatures anticipated on tomorrow and Friday, the city will activate the centers operating under the new plan.

“Residents are encouraged to use the designated cooling centers throughout our warmest season when temperatures often escalate into the 90s and beyond,” said City Manager Nelson Fialho.

Free transportation will be provided through Pleasanton Paratransit Service to any cooling center location for those ages 60 and older or ADA-qualified, free of charge. Call 931-5376 to arrange a ride and advise the dispatcher that you would like a ride to a cooling center. For more information, call the Parks and Community Services Department at 931-5340 or visit www.ci.pleasanton.ca.us.
