For the first time in its 50-plus years, Dublin High School will celebrate its inaugural holiday tree lighting ceremony on Wednesday night, starting 5 p.m.
The school will celebrate “its diversity with memories, music, culture, food and over 3,000 lights” strung on a 70-foot high redwood tree. In addition to celebrating the holidays of Diwali, Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa, several members of the Dublin Unified School District community who have died in recent years will be honored as part of the Dec. 1 ceremony.
Those to be recognized include class of 2022 students Mark and Michael Urista and Javier Ramirez, who died in a car crash on Christmas night in 2019, school custodian Derek Rosas who died in February, and school board trustee Catherine Kuo, who died one month later after being struck by a vehicle at Fallon Middle School.
Attendees will also be treated to performances by the Dublin High band and choir at the event, which school officials said is not to be confused with the city of Dublin’s 38th annual tree lighting event at Dublin Civic Center on Dec. 2, starting 7 p.m.
The inaugural Dublin High School Tree Lightning Ceremony will take place at 8151 Village Parkway on Dec. 1, starting at 5 p.m.
