The California Highway Patrol reported that a person walking on Interstate 580 in Livermore died early Thursday after being struck by a vehicle.
At 3:41 a.m., the CHP began receiving reports of a person walking in the center divider, on the roadway and on the shoulder of I-580.
A report at 4 a.m. said the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle, which then pulled over to the right shoulder. One witness said the pedestrian jumped in front of the vehicle, according to the CHP. The pedestrian died at the scene.
The CHP closed the three right lanes near the North Livermore Avenue interchange during the crash investigation and cleanup.
