The parents of a Danville girl believed to have jumped from the Golden Gate Bridge last week will hold a celebration of her life at 2 p.m. today at the Community Presbyterian Church in Danville.

The family also thanked the hundreds of volunteers who have helped search for Allison “Alliy” Bayliss, 15, after she was reported missing last Monday. Officials uncovered evidence the next day indicating she had jumped from the bridge in an apparent suicide.

“The tremendous support and love shown for Alliy has been overwhelming,” her family said in a statement. “We are grateful beyond words for the outpouring of concern, care and community that makes this place we live so special.”

“Alliy was a caring and compassionate young woman and an avid learner who was always interested in helping others,” the family said.

Allison was a sophomore at San Ramon Valley High School, school district spokeswoman Terry Koehne said. She was a member of the junior varsity swim team and a very good student academically, he said.

Those attending this afternoon’s service are asked to wear blue and bring photos of Allison or other memorabilia to add to the family scrapbook. The church is located at 222 West El Pintado Road in Danville.

In addition to today’s celebration, an “Allison Bayliss Donation Fund Account” has been established to further her interests. Donations can be made to any Wells Fargo bank.

Also, expressions of sympathy can be delivered to the Danville Police Department at: Bayliss Family, c/o Danville Police Department, 510 La Gonda Way, Danville, CA 94526.

  1. Life has no sadness greater than that which comes with the death of a child: no matter whose child it is, we all feel the loss.

I read of this poor child as volunteers searched for her, and I wondered what brought her to such a place; an argument, heartbreak, the shock of something seen, heard or felt?

As we celebrate her life and work to further her interests, I feel it would be of great value if someone could help us to understand what caused her to leave us so soon. Knowing why might, just maybe, help someone somewhere recognize the pain in someone else before it is too late and save a life.
