After an extended period of community input, the Zone 7 Water Agency will be revising the Arroyo Mocho Medeiros Parkway Project.

The agency had released back in April a draft initial study/mitigated negative declaration for the restoration project along Livermore’s Arroyo Mocho.

After hearing concerns and receiving feedback from locals during an extended comment period, Zone 7 announced that they will be revising the project — revisions that officials say “will likely significantly reduce the excavation of materials and associated truck traffic.”

The agency is not yet sure of the timeline for the revision process, though staff say the board would not be considering project adoption before August.

Specifically, the Arroyo Mocho Medeiros Reach Floodplain and Riparian Restoration Project would take place within a 40-acre area along the 0.7-mile Medeiros Reach of Arroyo Mocho, located between Arroyo Road and Holmes Street. It would be executed on public property owned by Zone 7, officials say.

The agency states that the purpose of the project is “flood risk reduction, sediment management, habitat enhancement, groundwater recharge, water quality improvement, and recreation/community compatibility,” adding that it is an important part of the Arroyo Mocho habitat restoration strategy.

A public agency in eastern Alameda County, Zone 7 acts as a water wholesaler for water service providers in Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore and San Ramon’s Dougherty Valley as well as provides flood protection in the Livermore and Amador valleys.
