Twenty-eight Pleasanton residents representing nine countries, including Canada, Iran and India, were sworn in as United States citizens during a naturalization ceremony at the Pleasanton Library Monday.

Organized by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office, the ceremony included remarks from Pleasanton City Manager Nelson Fialho before the 28 participants took the Oath of Allegiance.

This was the second year in a row the library hosted a naturalization ceremony.

  1. Welcome and thank you for respecting our laws and culture. Legal immigration has always been welcomed in this country and is part of our national heritage. My folks came here from Italy through Ellis Island as children back in the 20’s with their parents and grand parents. They learned the language and assimilated into American culture while retaining our rich Italian Heritage. They worked and saved and never took a handout or disrespected our country or flag. My father served in the Navy and later put himself through college graduating from Princeton university with a Masters in Psychology. America is a wonderful place full of opportunity if you choose to work hard, and respect our people, laws and culture. I personally wish you all great success. -Sanity
