BART officials will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. tonight on its plan to extend train service to Livermore.

The project, which is being developed in partnership with the city of Livermore, would extend BART 4.8 miles from the East Dublin/Pleasanton station along I-580 to a new station in the vicinity of the Isabel Avenue/I-580 Interchange.

The new station would accept bus to BART transfers and would include express bus services linking inter-regional rail service, both Livermore and Sandia laboratories, major residential and business districts in Livermore and from proposed offsite parking lots.

BART is soliciting comments on the scope of the proposed Draft Environmental Impact Report needed before the extension project can begin. At the Sept. 19 hearing, the public will be invited to talk about alternatives, impacts and mitigation measures that should be studied as part of the EIR process.

The meeting will be held in the Robert Livermore Community Center, 4444 East Ave., Livermore.

  1. Parking Offsite- AND more talk?

First, why can’t they just build the Livermore Station that was supposedly planned in the beginning? That had all the clearances.

When they originally built the BARTD they told the voters and the federal gov’t the electric train would go to Livermore, where the mostly unused “Transit” station parking lot is all by itself, near Greenville Rd. They took our taxes, and all the federal money they could get, based on building the whole system- then they pocketed the cost for the Livermore track and station. They let the Lexus lane be built in the former right of way on 580.

Can you trust BARDT, when their lips are moving?
What’s this now about Offsite Parking?

Seems to be a formula for failure. This station will be the end of the line, and if it is to be useful, will need a lot of parking, close enough to access.

I really don’t want to hear now about bus to BART transfers, especially when they are building a station that is years away (if ever). That’s just ducking the most important issue. They can add or change a bus route anytime.
    Q. I want to know: Does this “proposed” BARTD Station have enough parking, unlike most current Valley Stations? Ever try to ride during the day?

They failed to provide adequate parking at the original Pleasanton/Dublin Station because they claimed it was NOT the end of the line. Yet, much of the existing current surface area parking at Dublin has now been quietly sold to a developer, to be yet more apartments full of people who will need to park somewhere, even if they ride the train to work.

    Q. Will there actually be parking? Or NOT?

  2. And seats for all. No straps for hanging.

But that was what they said then.

Now, even though they made millions of dollars in operating profit this year, they want a NEW sales tax to use to build what was part of the original design.
I might’ve been blackmailed into that if it was subject to a renewal vote, but they want to make it FOREVER.
When did a tax ever get reduced? They always find ways to spend the money- especially if there is no accounting for it.

Why should money taken from voters while buying a coat, or a stereo go to paying to replace the money we’ve already paid for over 40 years (and continue to pay) in increased property taxes, already given to BARTD?
Vote NO for more new PERMANENT Taxes.

  3. There has to be enough parkig for all of Stockton. Isn’t THAT the idea. The MOST environmental info needed is about getting CARS OFF, that’s OFF the road !! RIGHT ????
Sooner, not later, and bigger, not smaller ! Isn’t anything better than idling cars sitting on the freeway ??
    Shape up…get ON IT !!!
