Raley's--Service & Merchandise Going Down Real Fast Around Town, posted by David Smith, a resident of the Downtown neighborhood, on Dec 23, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Has any one else noticed the general level of customer service at Raley's has seriously deteriorated in the last several months (say since mid September)??
This along with the merchandise the store carries, or more correctly said, is out of, including always running out of sale or ad merchandise makes me think twice about going there, especially since they are the highest priced store in the area.
Over the last several months when I have gone into the store, there has not been enough staff to serve the customers, no matter which department it is (some are much worse than others), and the level of inventory on the shelves is very sparse, or the merchandise is out of stock--like the store isn't ordering in large enough quantities, or the people ordering the merchandise do not know what they are doing. Just go in and look at the empty shelves; they are a joke !!!
I have found that Safeway, Smart & Final, and Trader Joe's are much better staffed and the stores much better stocked than Raley's---which is a shame because Raley's used to be a good store and has a captive audience right around it.
There is a new Safeway coming to Valley & Bernal in the near future, and I will welcome it when it does. In the mean time, a slightly further drive will get you better service and the merchandise at less money, all in one stop-since the store will have what you came there for in stock.
Has any one else had this or a similar experience with the newly remodeled downward heading Raley's on Sunol Blvd.??

Smith...take your whining and complaint to Raley's directly and save us from your pettiness. BTW: tell me what business you are in (my guess is that if you earn any income, you work for the government) so that I will find something to complain about.
Also, your complaints only make me want to give more of my business to Raley's.

Agree completely with the OP. Actually, Raley's service decreased dramatically after the remodel, when they cut back staffing and put in those PITA self-service machines. Now, they're not only the highest-priced supermarket, but their service is abysmal.

I think Raley's recently had 3 checkers leave at the same time--they went to openings in the Tracy store (closer to where they live). From what I understand, the store had to hustle to fill those spots. So there are new employees, as well as employees in new positions.

I have shopped at Raleys ever since they first opened, I have always had great customer service. If you aren't satisfied go directly to the source, talk to them, tell the store how you feel!

At night when Raley's is open, there is no outdoor lighting. It's dark directly outside the store and looks closed. Weird and unsafe.
The store is huge, yet there is no directory to help you find anything. When I asked about this, an employee looked for a while and then came up with a piece of paper that was tucked under something somewhere that had a printed directory. How the heck would anyone know where to find it? I STILL don't know where the employee found it.
They seem to think 'mood lighting' is the way to go. The interior is very dim, that combined with not being able to find anything makes me pass up Raleys.

David, notice the obnoxious people (Beth and Pete) who criticized you? They lurk here just waiting for somebody to post an opinion, observation or concern and then they attack. You can tell that they are very positive people, can't you? I'm sure they never complain about anything, they're just little rays of sunshine who police this forum for us.

I think Raleys is just fine, I like the people and I find the help when I need it. Safeway is to confusing and Traider Joes has horrible parking, and I don't like their Livermore store. I wish they would put a Whole Foods in the Vintage Hills shopping center. They say it is too small. Takeover the space next door.

Totally agree - Raleys pleasanton has decline what they call excellent service - and i think that happens because of "change of management" they have a NEW store manager now who is very obnoxious, he was too good to help me at the camera dept. I really missed the OLD store manager Dave. i always believe managers should always lead by example that is probably why raleys what they call excellent service is seriously deteriorating fast. I know they have good people there which i known for years, they just need to change the higher ups.

I don't get everyone's comments here about Raley's. I shop there all the time and I love it. It's cheaper than most of the other grocery stores, the remodel is beautiful and the staff is friendly. Maybe you have just had an isolated incident??
