Police Report on the Rev. Padraig (Patrick) Greene

Original post made by Jeb Bing, editor of the Pleasanton Weekly, on Nov 20, 2007

The following is the text of the official police report on the arrest of the Rev. Padraig (Patrick) Greene by the Oakland Police Department, 455 7th St., Oakland, Ref. Document 99-21313, dated 2 March 1999:

Crime: Lewd act in public, Sect. 314, Code P.C.
Address of occurrence: 6900 Broadway (Park)
Occurred on/from: 2 March 1999, 1350 (1:30 p.m.), Tuesday
Property/Narrative:
"On 2 Mar 99 at 1350 hrs, I was assinged (sic.) to work in plain clothes at the North Oakland Sports Center (6900 Broadway). I entered the mens (sic) restroom and observed the suspect (Greene, Patrick J.) standing facing the urinal.
Mr. Greene was masterbating (sic.) with his left hand. Mr. Greens (sic) penis was erect and he was not urinating. I asked Green (sic) if he had come there for an "afternoon delight;" He said he was just relaxing (still masterbating) (sic.) Mr. Greene asked what I was there for and turned to face me.
He continued to masterbate (sic.). I responded "Whatever comes up." He replied "What comes up most (sic) go down."
I then took Mr. Green (sic) into custody."

A document from the Municipal Court on April 28, 1999 reports that Greene spent two days in custody, that bail of $1,000 was waived and that Greene was released to participate in the rehabilitation program.

On Nov. 17, 1999, after verifying that the rehabilitation program has been completed successfully, Judge Castellanos dismissed all charges.

I'm confused! So what child did Padraig Greene abuse or, for that matter, what adult?

Thank you, Jeb, for posting this police report and bringing to light the GROSS exaggerations, false accusations and misinformation being disseminated about Father Greene. Those responsible should open their Bibles to Exodus 20:16, "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."

either way , what this "father" did was wrong and unexcusable. wether or not he was caught soliciting a minor. he was still caught masterbating in the public bathroom. with no concern that someone was speaking to him. he (Comment partially removed by Pleasanton Weekly Online staff)should not be aloud in the church. (Comment partially removed by Pleasanton Weekly Online staff)even if he only spent 2 days in custody, probably just in the holding cells as well. when i got a drunk in public back in 2000, i had to serve 3 days in custody. which one is worse? i think it's the lewd act. considering drinking is legal masterbating in a public bathroom urinal with people watching, in a facility known for soliciting minors. simply cause he had to settle (Comment partially removed by Pleasanton Weekly Online staff) he gets special treatment. i don't get it. but one thing that should never happen is allowing him into the pleasanton church. it is only a matter of time before a similar or much worse situation happends again. I agree with Aaron (I came on this forum because the other one has 130 something comments- to many to read). But I am still very curious as to why it's ok to excuse and forgive a priest but if a teacher or any other community leader did this, it would be hell for them. WHY is it ok??? Because a religion says to forgive those who have sinned? Just because a minor wasn't involved doesn't make it any better or worse. And let me add:A good person that has no faith in religion is better than an evil one that does. All Priests that have done things to children or sexual acts in public not involving children, to me, are considered "evil."

I personally know families that will not return to St. Augustines/Elizabeth just because of this- not of fear or any worry that something may happen. Just because they do not have a need to belong to a community church that associates with these kinds of people. It's like locking an alcoholic that goes to A.A in a room each day for 5 hours with a case of beer. Eventually, he/she will crack and give in.

I would like to know if aaronw or PToWN94566 are members of CCOP ..... or are you just people that are too ignorant and hateful to know the truth about Father Green? ..... he has already served OUR parish community for several years and while there may be a few isolated families that have not known him closely, the other thousands families do and support him and love him dearly .... this is not a man that is a threat to anyone .... on the contrary .... this is a man that has done more good and will do more good for our parish than any outsider could ever know ..... (portion removed by PW staff) Mr. Aaron .... (portion removed by PW staff) but then again, I suppose that you must feel that you've paid your dues and are entitled to move foward with your life as a prodcutive citizen .... oh but wait a minute .... I guess that's only good for you and not for any body else ......

Take action and influence the selection of a new pastor:

1. Give to other charities - Donations speak the loudest. Until the decision to name another pastor is made redirect your weekly church donation to other local charities not associated with the Diocese of Oakland.
2. Volunteer your time to other causes - Your time is valuable and you should spend it with organizations whose leaders you admire. Refusing to carry on with any volunteer work you perform as if nothing has changed and making the conscience choice to donate your time elsewhere will be noticed.
3. Unregister from the parish - Taking your name off the parish roll and refusing to have your family name associated with an organization you do not agree with is an easy, yet powerful statement. Other churches in the area are: St. Raymond Parish in Dublin and St. Charles Borromeo Parish and St. Michael Parish in Livermore. These parishes are part of the Diocese of Oakland, so give to other local charities instead until a new paster is assigned to CCOP.

Geezz JT bitter much? (portion removed by PW staff) As for the priest at St. Augustines, yes he may have done his time with therapy but I would NEVER leave my nephew or any child alone with him. And the only reason I feel this is because of what HAS happened in catholic churches- it's not a risk anybody should have to take. And to answer your question, yes I was baptized at St. Augustines and used to be a part of that community- but I'm not anymore because of people like you. I used to be at St. Augustines everyday as a teenager, after school, helping plan events for the youth program. Anyway, I don't care who it is that committs a crime that involves sexual acts, alone or with other, but I would never leave a child alone with him or her. Even if it was the Pope or some other highly respected person. A person who chooses to do something as dirty as that, has made a horrible choice and should never again be seen as a community leader.

well JT, would you leave him in charge of your kids for the week. no other people. i think not, sir. and who are you to throw judgement either bud, you don't seem to know much yourself. a dip is nothing you fool, a sexually lewd act will make you a sexual offender. you seem to have a personal relationship with the guy, so good for you and your biast opinion. good job!! i am a concerned citizen looking at your church, though not my current church, still a local church i use to go to. 10-15 years ago i was part of the church. and i would go to if for some reason my fine church with priests that don't jack-it in public around kids, shuts down... but no i wouldn't. wolf in sheeps clothing. i've been let down by people i have known for years. so don't be suprised when he does it again.I agree with you ptown94566, he should not be allowed here. i don't care what he's done for the community, look at what he's done against it now. sexual devience is sexually differing from a norm or from the accepted standards of a society. it is not acceptable, not just by the bible, but by webster too. so jt i guess the question is how far are you going to go to protect a evil person. would you protect him if you found him with your son, giving him a special "penance". i doubt it, you would probably like any normal person rip his head off.

I personally am not a cynic. I believe in forgiving someone for their past mistakes. However, if you don't believe this, there is no way that I am going to be able to change your mind. But what I can say is PLEASE think about this logically. So he masturbated in a public bathroom. HOW does that make him in any way a danger to children???
