Tax to leave the state

Original post made by Kristi, Danbury Park, on Mar 4, 2012

The attached was an idea presented by the Democrats a few years ago but I think it should be revisited. With so many companies and wealthy individuals leaving the state should we be able to charge them a tax for leaving the state. Afterall, they made their money here and we need to revenue.

People should not be taxed for leaving the state....they have already paid taxes on their monies earned.

When my wife and I retire, we will not leave the state, but we will buy a house in another state and use it as our residence. This way we don't have to pay CA state tax.

I personally think we should tax them at least at half of what they are trying get out of the state.

Prop 13 was the wrong answer to the problem at hand. You can't force people to pay more to leave the state--it's not a prison. Keep talking about raising taxes and people won't just leave CA, they'll find another country. I think there must be better solutions.

Daniel Borenstein just stated that each household 'owes' about $30,000 for irresponsible local governments and school boards and state governments making deals for outrageous pensions of its employees.

The solution is to get rid of cowards that are our elected officials and electing ones willing to make changes rather that go with the status quo. Having the unions take pay cuts and paying a fair share of their outrageous pensions are what is causing the downfall of California.

And people and businesses are leaving the state in droves because of it. You can't charge someone for leaving. That is ridiculous and something only a bureaucrat or union leader would love.

Anyone leaving this state owes us and should pay a fee before they exit. For those who stay both individuals and business's we need to assess if they are pYing anywhere close to what they should be paying.

Do I have any other choice other than to leave this state. There's no room left. I look around and feel I'm living in a 3rd world brothel. Don't get me wrong, I love brothels, but only in Nevada.

Are we on a sinking ship here in this state??? That's what I want to know.

What a great idea - for everyone else. I'll be long gone if something like this threatens to take effect. I like California's weather, natural beauty, but that's about it. Sorry about those pensions - but that was obvious long ago - duh.

Fred and Kristi, I think we need to examine how much extra each of you owe. I doubt you've been paying enough.
