Bob Dole Urges Thinking Republicans to Change Parties: No Takers

Original post made by Freedom isn't just ideas, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on May 27, 2013

Former Senator Bob Dole appeared on Fox News Sunday and had scathing words for the leaders of the party that once nominated him for president.

“I think they ought to put a sign on the National Committee door that says ‘closed for repairs,’ until New Years’ Day next year,” Dole told Chris Wallace, “and spend that time going over ideas and positive agendas.” [...]

“Could people like Bob Dole, even Ronald Reagan, could you make it in today’s Republican party?” Wallace asked.

“I doubt it,” Dole said. “Reagan couldn’t have made it. Certainly Nixon couldn’t have made it, because he had ideas.”

Dole then dropped a bombshell on Fox viewers, exhorting them to change over to the Democratic Party. Almost immediately the network went dead, and when it came back five minutes later, Dole was gone from his chair, replaced by Anne Coulter exhorting Americans to imprison Barack Obama.

I agree with the Senator, putting a sign on the door reading 'closed for repairs' and spend time going over ideas and positive agendas' would be a winner, voting Dem intentionally, is not.
That is pure Dole humor....there is a book by the same name. He has always painted very clear pictures with his humor, something we haven't seen a lot of lately. But, today, Republicans do vote Democrat, through political ignorance.

Dole was correct. None of the Republican presidents or nominees since the 1950s, could be nominated in the Republican primaries of today... Not Reagan, Papa Bush, Senior Senator Goldwater, none of them. Their supporters haven't changed, yet are called RINOs today. Reagan was civil and had an 80% rule, 'any Republican you agree with 80% of the time is your friend". He also preached and practiced, 'never speak ill of a fellow Republican'. Yet, Republican primaries of today are about destroying fellow Republicans. As long as that continues, the party should and will lose.
With more than a decade of mouthy conservative media we have politically ignorant hypocrites who dare to use Reagan's name, then run against sure to be re-elected incumbent Republicans in primaries !! Can't win Majority that way, every seat matters. Becoming 'district' hot shots, they then think they're ready to be President of 50 states !! There are victories in the Southern DISTRICT elections. Great, if the Republican party wants to be a 'Regional' party. But, National Presidential elections require presidential victories in Ca, NY, Fla, and many more. That means winning each state majority with messages that appeal to the majority, and no personal crusades. Crusades are for other venues.
Reagan carried the state of CA FOUR times, twice elected Governor, and twice for President, the second time carrying 49 states. I can't think of anybody on the scene today who could win a 'national' election. Certainly no 'regional' hot-shots and certainly no 'freshmen' currently in Washington. Their pockets of followers are politically ignorant about carrying the states needed to win. It just takes a few dummies to lose it for the country. Sadly, everybody wants a microphone, and today, everybody has a microphone, and a camera too !!

Real Republican, you sound like the Republicans Bob Dole is talking about. In case you missed it, Dole is saying the Republicans don't have any ideas. You say all the Republicans do during primaries is tear one another apart. What else ARE they expected to do given that they have no cogent ideas to offer? Aside from 'don't tax the rich', gun rights for any lunatic who desires a gun, and anti-racial (code word: anti-entitlement) policies, what else is there? Dole has it right, and I don't think he's joking.

Came upon this recently....

The great American war hero, Mark Levin, tells us: "The Republican party is filled with weak, scared, fearful men and women in Washington, D.C. who try to rationalize what they're doing, which isn't much of anything. These mealy-mouthed casper creampuffs lash out against great people like Michele Bachmann who are calling their attention to the perilous future that is being placed before us and demanding action. Not radical action, not right-wing action, none of that. Action based on our founding principles, within our Constitutional construct. That's what we're up against."

"Maybe Bob Dole couldn't be nominated today and perhaps that's a good thing. And it's a good thing that Olympia Snowe has left the Senate because she had a disastrous career of contributing to this monstrosity of liberal deference to communist and Islamic strategems. I don't have a problem with her unpatriotic comments given what she's done and where she's from. They're self-serving, quite frankly. But the rest of us, who haven't served in the Senate or the House, haven't served in the office of the presidency, I think we have a much clearer view of what the hell is going on in this country. Obama needs to be imprisoned."
