Council election to be decided Tuesday

Original post made on May 4, 2013

It's election time again and four candidates -- Mark Hamilton, David Miller, Kathy Narum and Olivia Sanwong -- are seeking election to the one open Pleasanton City Council seat next Tuesday in what appears to be a lively, robust and heavily promoted contest.

After being involved in different elections in Pleasanton in the past few years, I have to say the biggest thing I appreciate is having a clean election. I write this in support of Kathy Narum, because seeing the no-narum signs against her makes me disappointed that there is a candidate running a dirty election. Regardless if you support Kathy or not, advertising signs against her is low and dirty, and that is not what Pleasanton is about. Kathy Narum has been involved in several committees and projects in Pleasanton in the past years, and she is truly the behind the scenes person. She is educated, respectful, and prepared to help lead Pleasanton along with the rest of the council. Please take this into consideration, and think twice about her main opponent when you see the no-narum signs. This down does not play dirty, keep its charm and vote Narum.

I know Kathy personally. Kathy Narum was the queen of mean blogging for years. Each election she smeared the competition with inside information.

She finally got her payback. Nope, I don't feel sorry for her at all.

Join me and Vote Olivia for council.

I agree with OMG, I have not seen the No Narum sign, but I know in the past 6 weeks during election, Narum or her supporters have send out lots and lots of nasty attacks to other candidates in the blog, make up stories to make other candidates look bad. I have been following the blog and know the facts. When I talked to her, she will tell me how bad her opponent was. Also, just like OMG said, every election, she will smeared her competition with inside information. Our town does not need this kind of city council. And our town does not need anyone who point fingers and speculate and does not state facts. Vote any of the three candidates, NOT Narum.

OMG and Sara,

Have no ideas where you are getting your info. Are you David Miller? Have only seen one candidate who is slamming others and it is not Kathy Narum.

I have seen Kathy Narum, Olivia Sanwang, and Mark Hamilton all playing fair and respectfully. They take each other on with facts but have not seen any blatant lies or misrepresentations. I think i could trust any one of them if i was working with them. In contrast, David Miller seems just to slam everyone and call them names. I can only suspect that is because he does not have his own story to tell. I understand he has never been a part of any city commitee or commission while all the other candidates have contributed back. Maybe David Miller should try contributing to our community first before slamming others who have spent time giving back.

Fact checker, I am a miller supporter and I am so disappointed to see you attacking miller, like you did before in the last 7 weeks. Now the whole town knows what personality you have. I have seen miller participating in a lot of city council meetings. He has helped with the city unfunded pension plan. Maybe you can ask narum whether that is true? I saw a couple of letter to the editor from people who talked about miller helping with the city pension plan in the last four years. I believe pleasanton weekly has an article about his helping with the city pension plan as well. Let's all talk about issues, check on each candidate's website to see what each candidate has to offer to its citizens, is that ok? Thank you so much

Wow, the latest mailer from Miller wasn't an attack piece on the other two candidates, (btw, there are 4 candidates in the race) calling them names and grossly misrepresenting the facts? Are you saying its ok for Miller to do that?

Exactly what help did Miller give the City with city pensions besides standing up at the podium and criticizing the employees and council? As the blog has demonstrated, anybody can write anything but that doesn't mean its true. Just facts, please.

OMG, Sara, Jessica, et al, just look at the names on Narum's endorsement list. IF you bothered BEING involved in the community yourselves, you will recognize that everybody in Pleasanton, who has had any history MAKING THINGS HAPPEN OVER THE DECADES, has endorsed NARUM....TO PROTECT THE PLEASANTON THEY HELPED CREATE.
I have actually spoken in protest of union excesses, many times more than Miller over the last decade. Ooops, that's right he's new to Pleasanton. He was born in some mysterious 'American' town, and just arrived in Pleasanton in 2009, and hasn't gotten settled enough to be able to spend ANY time on ANY boards or commissions to KNOW Pleasanton.
