Pleasanton police arrested a 39-year-old man on several charges for allegedly setting fire to his own house with people inside amid a domestic dispute earlier this month.
Kent Charles Hermanson was booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on suspicion of aggravated arson, child endangerment and domestic violence last Thursday in connection with the damaging house fire on Paseo Navarro six days earlier, according to Capt. Larry Cox. He remained in custody as of late Monday afternoon.
No other details about the criminal investigation and the circumstances that led up to the blaze being ignited at 4:30 a.m. that day were revealed when Pleasanton PD announced the arrest on Monday.
“We are still awaiting the final report from the fire department. I can provide more information regarding the ignition source and circumstances once I receive that report. I want to provide you accurate information and some of those questions will be answered in the fire department’s report,” Cox told the Weekly.
The fire caused serious damage to the single-story house and the heavy flames threatened several neighboring homes April 17 on Paseo Navarro, a horseshoe neighborhood street off Hopyard Road near Hansen Park.
All six occupants of the primary house escaped without injury — their relation to Hermanson has not been confirmed.
Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department crews were able to limit the damage only to that house, sparing the adjacent homes.
Police and fire officials reported almost right away that they deemed the fire suspicious.
