"Childcare advocates in Alameda County are back again with a proposed new half-cent sales tax countywide nearly two years after a similar measure fell just short at the ballot box."

And I'm back again to vote "no".

If it passes, the sales tax rate in Pleasanton would be almost 10%. Here's a really "crazy" idea: have parents pay for/make arrangements for child care instead of the taxpayers in Alameda County. Taxes (sales, income, property, gas) are already too high in California.

MichaelB...The communists never stop and this is why the voters need to be always aware and educated, but sadly Alameda County and the Bay Area has been swallowed by the "Party". And make no mistake about it, this isn't for the kids. It's for the "party", bit by bit, measure by measure, ballot by ballot it's always for the "party".

"In addition to national priorities, Swalwell said his goals for the next term include "to keep doing all I can to improve CA15 residents' quality of life..."

Want to improve the quality of life for residents in CA15?

Just vote Swalwell out of office. He has become a younger version of Pete Stark, has accomplished little for his four terms in Congress, and isn't the "moderate" he claimed to be when he first ran for office.

"In their ballot submittal form, Measure C proponents said the tax measure would need only a simple majority to pass, even though special taxes in California have typically required a two-thirds supermajority. The Measure C documents in the county's voter information guide don't clearly address that threshold question, and an Alameda County Registrar of Voters' Office representative said they could not specify on Monday."

When things don't go your way, just change the rules or move the goalposts!

Anyone else think that activists/politicians/special interest organizations will somehow (and eventually) find a way of "specifying" that the two-thirds super majority requirement for a special tax in this state is no longer required?

Dave Haubert is not a teacher. How dare he say his main profession is an educator. That is very misleading, but I'm not surprised. He also led conservatives to believe he was a Republican (he left the party as a condition to get Swalwell to support him for his Mayor run). Be very careful who you vote for Supervisor. I prefer one of the guys from Fremont. Vinnie Bacon has accepted ZERO special interest money.

God tasked Liu to bring world peace in 2003 at Ziggurat of Ur, Iraq. Self-made multimillionaire, 100% service-connected Army combat veteran, on mission to create United States University Online run by U.S. Dept. of Education, Bachelors degree level for $400, Masters for $600 and Doctorates for $800. Once mastering subjects, apply to $500 Doctorate level testing that if passed with 70%+ gets Bachelors Degree with a license to practice in their trade, 85%+ for Masters, 95%+ Doctorate. University available worldwide, profits distributed back to the taxpayers. All H1B VISA seekers must pass the exam, eliminating fake diploma mills, provide degree pathway using work experience/training and/or if college/university went bankrupt and/or lost accreditation. Liu, federally recognized journalist by United States Defense Information School, deemed too honest, blacklisted by Twitter, Facebook and #fakenews mass media even though he ranked 10th out of 27 candidates in the 2018 California gubernatorial primary with zero monetary contributions. Liu's Community Empowered Safety Plan brings peace and #CESP5 riches to his followers worldwide, making Ivy League Universities such as Harvard, Yale, like 56K modems in age of wireless 5G. Electing Liu to U.S. Congress in 2020 only expedite this process. If not elected, someone at ABC HQ should fire Jimmy Kimmel and hire Liu. Spread this message even if you're atheist and vote Liu because he's too cool to be a socialist Democrat. Legislation to allow women to auction newborn babies to people from $50K minimum up to $2M USD, with preference to baby daddy, then adoptive couples who can't conceive. This will prevent abortion and allows women to be compensated. Don't care what naysayers sitting on the sidelines say while trying to save babies with practical solution. Revamp dwelling building codes nationwide allowing superadobe, fireproof, Earthquake resistant, floodproof, bulletproof housing made of 90% soil dug at the foundation to provide affordable housing. Grundmann, for one primary reason has my vote, Nationalize The Federal Reserve. This one issue above all the problems of the world needs a voice in congress to stir it up. We can objectively trace every war, every invasion, the military industrial-congressional-media complex to being controlled and run by the bankers since the formation of the Federal Reserve as a privately owned and directed institution. Grundmann probably has no idea how dangerous a position he has taken on for humanity in proposing he will stand for nationalizing the Federal Reserve. Please start voting for people who take on this position of Nationalizing the Federal Reserve.

Well Californians, you have some choices to make.

Proposition 13. READ THIS BILL. It has NOTHING to do with Original Prop 13 every body knows and supports. I find the title, Prop 13 (2020) as an interesting name choice for this 35 years of payments Bond. Was it chosen to "trick" voters? As this bill was created by the legislature, Primarily majority party, I have ZERO trust in this bill. Our Grandchildren will be paying for "yet again" another so called school bond long into the future. PLEASE read the bill...
VOTE NO on this overpriced garbage bill. California Taxpayers cannot afford it. Just ask all those leaving the State in groves..... NO ON 13!

Congress: Do we really want Swalwell back? I say no as he spent most of his time in committee to remove President. Research what he has done, and you vote him out. Not to mention BAD manners on the podium. He is why so many Americans HATE Congress.
Let's put somebody in that will actually work and NOT be a puppet of Pelosi.......

Measure "C" Yet another County with snouts in the pig pen for yet HIGHER sales taxes. With the recent Fuel/DMV massive taxes in SB-1, struggling families cannot endure MORE taxes to support social programs. This, on top of Property Taxes up 2% each year, is just too much...... Sales taxes are already too high. NO on "C" I think County should just CUT 1/2% of the entire county budget instead. Now wouldn't THAT be special........ When was the last time ANYTHING got cut?

Measure "D". Renters and property owners will pay 2% more in property taxes. Why can't some of the increase be used to fund this. Double Dipping in my book.

PRESIDENT? No choice here UNLESS you want Socialism, pie in the sky spending, spend, spend, spend type of candidates. Have you heard of ANY mention CUTTING down expenses and programs save ONE. Think about that........ I am Much better off now than the last 2 Presidents combined. And I do think about my children and grand-children who will have to live with the WRONG choice YOU make long term..........

No, I mean cranks. Cranks come in all political affiliations, including my own! I suppose that speaking in non-hyperbolic language without the use of scare quotes, doomsday predictions, or finger-pointing at boogeymen communists or theocrats is somewhat passé. My case is that people should state their case without flailing their arms about total and absolute financial collapse for every half-cent sales tax measure or minor regulation repeal. Get a grip.

Ok. I think there are people who are genuinely concerned about the total tax burden in California. By state, California was 11th. Web Link That rank will move up if we keep passing every tax proposal.

"...absolute financial collapse for every half-cent sales tax measure or minor regulation repeal."

Do you know what you pay in taxes and government-imposed "fees" every single year?

This isn't just about paying more every damned year. This is about paying more every damned year and NOT SEEING THE RESULTS.

-It's about paying $48+ billion on Illegal immigration
-It's about paying $100's of billions in cost over-runs for government programs across all departments
-It's about paying $100's of billions in in overseas financial aid for countries that are of no significant value to our national health and well being
-It's about paying $10's of billions in highways funds, only to find potholes ALL OVER THE PLACE
-It's about paying teachers $100's of billions and finding out that our state is 48th in educational scoring

I can go on and on and on...but you get the picture.

Who's responsible? Who do we fire for bringing us to this point?

We're finally at a point where someone in Washington DC gives a hoot and is making REAL change, and we have progressive, left wing democrats crying "Orange man bad" or something.

Dan

The wonderful Democrat Party has demonstrated they to not believe in the rule of law and our constitution:
1) Hillary loses in the Electoral College - demand that we use the popular vote to justify removing the duly elected president because he is a New York jerk they all hate. Why bother doing the work to change the Constitution - just ignore it.
2) They don't agree with immigration laws because they hate Trump so just ignore them. Yeah Resistance! It doesn't matter Obama took the same action on immigration as Trump.
3) Don't bother to take the legal action as outlined in the Constitution to address Trump's claims of executive privilege. Just pass the impeachment in the House and demand the Senate call witnesses the House didn't bother to get.

Don't do the the hard work to change the laws your don't like - just ignore them and do what you want, without really caring how it affects those around you.

It's the NEW AMERICAN WAY! ME.ME.ME and the HECK WITH THE REST OF YOU!

Man, I didn't realize how many trumpers we got in our city! It's ok, boomers, we'll drag you into the future kicking and screaming if necessary. I know progress can be scary but its time for us to join the rest of the civilized world in the 21st century.

Man, I didn't realize how many (gullible) people in our city think that money just grows on trees and whatever someone needs/wants becomes a "right" (that the taxpayers need to provide for "free"). It's ok, you'll be kicking and screaming once you realize how much you are expected to pay - and can no longer afford things to take care of yourself and family.

Hey JH - Just in case your wondering - I am not for Trump.

I am a Boomer ready to move into my gimme years - I've been paying all my taxes for many years, paid off my student loans, paid for 3 Pleasanton schools bonds, etc and now it's time for others to pay their fair share.

Free College, Free Medicare for All, Don't have to pay off your student loans - yes this is Real Progress! Or should I say "Progress"ive?

Maybe some day you'll realize you've been sold a bad set of ideas - get free stuff and let someone else pay for it!

What you idiots don't realize is YOU will eventually pay for all of it. Into the 22nd century!

Eventually all of us Boomers will be long dead and gone and you'll be working until your dead. Now that's PROGRESS!

You do realize that in order to get all of that "free stuff" the government will have to ...raise Fed. income taxes, institute Fed. property taxes, institute Fed. sales taxes, and...well the list will go on as they get more creative until everyone is essentially working for the government. And they still won't have enough money so they will start printing it until inflation sinks the ship.
What do they call it when you work for the government...oh, ya COMMUNISM.

Yeah, sure you’re not. You just parrot pro-Trump extremist right-wing talking points.

BTW, why didn’t any of you pro-Trumpers here who are complaining about Democratic spending mention Trump’s trillion dollar scale budget deficits? You Trump supporters think that money grows on trees? Or did you all just “forget” to mention Trump’s trillion dollar budget deficit spending?:

“ DONALD TRUMP PROMISED TO ELIMINATE THE DEFICIT IN 8 YEARS. SO FAR, HE HAS INCREASED IT BY 68%” - Newsweek, 10/8/19

“ US DEFICIT SURGES 25% IN FISCAL 2020 AND IS $1.1 TRILLION OVER THE PASY YEAR”- CNBC, 2/12/20

“ TRUMP’S BUDGET DEFICITS COULD ALMOST DOUBLE OBAMA’S” - 7/29/19

Wombat -

I'm registered non-partisan because I don't support either the extremist republicans nor the extremist democrats.

In 2016 I could bring myself to vote for either Clinton or Trump - I voted for gary Johnson.

I think you're crazy if you think my comments are Trump talking points and they certainly are not extremist right wing.

They are more aligned with what we used to call "moderates" in this country.

I've read all your posts on this site - I think you are the extremist - and perhaps someone mentally unbalanced due to your Trump derangement syndrome.
