A Dublin teenager who was missing for a week returned home safely this Tuesday, according to Dublin Police Services.

DPS had put out a call for public help in locating Max Joseph Merrell after the 14-year-old was reported missing by his family on Feb. 12. The public call included descriptions of his appearance and last known whereabouts, along with a recent photograph.

Dublin police Capt. Nate Schmidt confirmed late Tuesday night that Merrell had returned home safely. “Max has been located safe and in good health. Thank you to everyone for their support and assistance,” officials posted on the DPS Twitter account.

  1. I think we deserve to know why he was missing. I think it is really stupid how you give us such little detail about why he was missing for a week. I think we deserve some explaining.

  3. Such a bad article! If you are writing an article on this, why not provide information such as:

    1) How was he found?
    2) Where was he found?
    3) How did he disappeared? Kidnapping? Ran away?
    4) Perhaps, why?

    Unless the above article was written by a 3rd grader, then I can understand.

  4. Come on with all due respect, if you crave those kinds of details go pick up a People magazine at CVS this afternoon. In all likelihood it serves the best interests of the family involved and Law enforcement to leave large details OUT of this local story for now. I’m sure it’s been a traumatic week for the parents, let’s all hope they are doing well and the teenager learns lessons from the experience.

  5. Mr. Info has it right. If this was simply a “family matter” then it never should have made it to the public eye via media in the first place. With all the focus on child trafficking, abductions (think Amber Alert) and crimes against children, the public should at least be made aware of what is and isn’t a crime in their community. If the boy ran away from home, then just say so. However, if there was more to his disappearance for a week than that, and a crime may have been committed, it should be reported as such in the “paper”. Seems to be a lack of any kind of investigative journalism, only sensationalized headlines or Tweets. No wonder our sound-bite culture is so uninformed.
