Hart Middle School Book Sale Fundraiser

Original post made by Mr. Vergon, Hart Middle School, on Apr 21, 2014

Do you have any children or young adult books lying around your house collecting dust? Why not donate them to Hart Middle School?

We are in the process of accepting book donations to be sold at Open House, May 15th, from 4:30-7:30pm on the quad.

So rather than give those books to the local thrift shop, think about donating them to education for education. Proceeds will help fund Hart's Drama program and our very first literary journal/magazine, Voices from the Hart featuring our student's short stories, poems and essays.

Bring your children or young adult books to the Hart Middle School library or drop them off in the main office.

All the unsold books eventually get dumped into the recycling bins outside the school on the curb. Many students decide not buy books they want and later go search for them in the bins. A large amount of books (100 to 150) in useable condition were thrown out after our last sale. I find it appalling that our school would simply discard these books and not donate them to our own library for circulation or a good will shop. I encourage everyone to support the drama department but at the same time speak out against this waste.
Also, I thought I might add that a Hindu friend of mine was deeply offended by the destruction of so many books. To my understanding the Hindu faith teaches that you must have respect for written material or you would offend the God of literature, Devi Saraswati.
