Too poor for scammer

Original post made by Safety Guy, Las Positas Garden Homes, on Dec 20, 2013

Just thought I'd share a funny story and give everyone a heads up about a scam attempt. I was at Dublin Safety last night and a woman approached me looking to raise $60 for a stay at "the motel 6 and soup for her kids until she could go to Sheperds Gate Shelter". She did not have her kids with her and was offering to show ID to prove it was not a scam. She also mentioned she had been denied help from someone "right over there" based on her race. I wasn't really sold on her story but given the Christmas season I thought I'd help her out. I pull out my wallet and I only have $2 cash. Before I could hand her literally my last $2 she mentioned "The ATM is right over there". Unbelievable! Needless to say, I kept my $2 and walked away. I did think it was funny that I'm too poor to even waste the scammer's time taking my money. I'm guessing she wanted the entire $60 all at once...yeah I left it in my helicopter, I'll have my butler get it for you. Who carries that kind of cash anymore? Seriously? I told the story to my wife and she mentioned that it could have been a setup and the scammer could have had an accomplice waiting at the ATM. Just thought I'd give my fellow residents a heads up about a local scam artist. Lesson learned, I'll send my donations directly to charity.
