I drove by and saw construction trucks, did not look like a place that was finished for the grand opening, so I drove away.

Any chance we can form a citizens group to reverse the decision on the future McDonalds? That would be (3) McDonalds in Pleasanton. I say we hold the line on this and pressure the city council/planners to reverse this decision. We should ban all future development of any fast food establishments in the city of Pleasanton. I can't wait for the golden arches to go up. Once those go up all of those small businesses across the street will then go under. Funny how that happens!!!!
Seriously....does anyone want to stare at a McDonalds off 680 for the next 50 years? Why? Look at Santa Rita Rd congestion and mayhem because we are quickly headed that direction over here. Just a shame what is happening.

I was unaware another McDonalds is planned at this site...We definitely do not need another McDonalds in this town. It will be unsightly off the freeway and make Pleasanton seem like the great fast food supporter to all that travel the area freeways. They will see the existing golden arches at 580 / Santa Rita and the other one now at 680 / Bernal. It will seem like Pleasanton is surrounded by Fast Junk food! Why not add something more healthy like a second Sweet Tomatoes since it is always packed in there.
Come on politicians, please stop seeing the dollar signs behind this and start showing the public that you support healthy choices not junk food! Is there an election coming up anytime soon???
I will sign any petition that I come across to stop building junk fast food in this city and start supporting more healthy choices.

Please. No McDonald's.

For those of you against McDonalds, here's an easier solution for you.... if you don't like it,just don't eat there. Who are you to dictate what other people in this city can or cannot eat just because you don't like McDonalds. I personally LIKE junk food and am not into the health food thing - should I start a group to presure the city into denying healthy restaurants in town?
And, as far as how McDonald's looks, the city has building requirements and I'm sure it would have to look nice just like the rest of the center does.

Would to see some new resturants go into the shopping center or even downtown. We have a lack of good places to go and eat in Pleasanton. I can't believe there are more banks and hair salons going in - that's basically all there is downtown.

There is NO McDonalds!

No no more McDonald!! Come on City Council. Get a grip. Make it a soup-sandwich shop. Look up the new franchise starting called The Melt. Or make it a LaBoulange. But no more McDonalds.

Laboulange or Yankee Pier would be great! I see Bagel Cafe, Panda Express, Baja Fresh and Habit burgers so far.

Dear "fact checker":
So, the McDonalds at the corner of Valley and Stanley doesn't really exist?
There's one in the Stoneridge Mall, as well. Not in Pleasanton?
What about the one at the intersection of Santa Rita and 580?
Soon we should have one at every entry point into the city?

... Note, also, that all the suggestions made so far are for regional or national corporate chains. This kind of development serves corporate options, as local, small, mom&pop type operations can not afford the rents that these corporate developments demand. (I could be wrong, but doesn't Safeway actually make a very significant part of its profits from real estate rather than groceries?) The development at the Bernal property reflects a corporate homogenization of our communities. Whether we like these choices or not, the heavy dependence on corporate chains is gutting the character and unique qualities of towns and regions all over the country...

Le Boulanger would be nice since most are located in the San Jose area. I would prefer Le Boulanger over La Boulange.

There will NOT be a McDonalds at the Bernal/680 location near the brand new Safeway.

In this poor economy I'm glad Safeway chose to add another store in Pleasanton. Get off the McDonald's griping and say thanks to Safeway for investing in our community.

Efficient does not mean junk. You are in charge of what you order. I love McDs and order GRILLED chic salad, GRILLED chick sandwich, Non-fat mochas, and apples for kids.
However, 2 McD will do for the moment, until we at least have ONE Chipolte ! ! ! Soon ! I have to drive to Dublin to get it, which I do when I stop in Sprouts, and safeway GAS.

"Seriously....does anyone want to stare at a McDonalds off 680 for the next 50 years? Why? Look at Santa Rita Rd congestion and mayhem because we are quickly headed that direction over here. Just a shame what is happening."
Ugh. I agree. I'm especially opposed to any McDonald's right off of 680 which would act as a beacon for a lot of for people driving on 680 who .... well...... are the kind of people who like to eat at McDonald's. Yeah, I admit it. I have a prejudiced view of McDonald's and the typical McDonald's customer.
Le Boulanger would be OK.

Good idea with La Boulange! We really need good food in pleasanton. Or something like the pear and the peasant, or maria maria's. The food at albertos is terrible. The location and patio is the only reason why that place is busy. Also, would love a sports bar to watch games.

Mc D's please not another, what is the city thinking. Atleast if they are pushing fast food go with In & Out or maybe even Burger King. Something that is on the other side of town almost Dublin. I was under the impression that we were going to get a sit down restaurant, maybe a Olive Garden or Red Lobster would have been great

We just got back from the "lifestyle" store. I was not impressed. The parking lot was a zoo. One way in , one way out is not a good idea. The gas station they are building, will make it even more of a challenge. Just another Safeway. I will still continue to shop at Gene's and the other Safeway.
The lit trees were pretty.

Since this is a flagship store, I thought the parking lot was terrible -
there were less than a dozen handicap shops and once again, no angle parking. The Livermore store is far superior regarding parking - easy to get in and out. Also I didn't see any areas to leave shopping carts. No more McDonalds, hooray for the Habit and Baja Fresh.

A "flagship" Safeway......really! A Safeway is a Safeway is a Safeway. They are just monopolizing the area. Pretty soon we will have no choice but to shop at Safeway and to be honest - I am not impressed. I don't understand why the same old businesses put their stamp on every corner. Safeway, Starbucks, Baja Fresh, ...... l really wish a new healthy choice would come to town. Plus, I don't understand why Safeway Plazas always have a nightmare for parking. They overbuild everyone of them - with no ample parking. This one is the same. Shame on the city for allowing it.

Seriously--if you really want an McDonald-you might as well go jump in front of a train and kill yourself now. you might think you are eating healthy there by ordering a salad but guess what you are not. I am sure you put there fake salad dressing on or their fake croutons on-look at the ingredients and then call your cardiologist.
to the person that posted as shoppe" GRILLED is not healthier-DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

If you want Le Boulanger, you should email to tell them. I contacted them about 7 years ago and they wrote back to say they were considering locations in Pl/Du. But they never came. If you want it, let them know!

I do not understand the promise of "like Whole foods" this is like every Safeway I have ever been in. big and clean but same old, same old. The architecture of the center is nice, it is a good addition to Pleasanton, I will shop there.

Lifestyle?
We have been duped. It is just another Safeway and nothing like Whole Foods or Sprouts.
The Raley's organic selection is better than this new "flagship" Lifestyle store. The only lifestyle i see is the same ole same ole.
Such as shame, and a scam to call it the new Healthy Lifestyle store.
I was hoping they would go that way, but looks like nothing more than the same ole.
The might as well open a McDonald's and a KFC inside the store.

Come on ptown people, just be happy and not whine about everything! It gets old. Starting to get the feeling many of you will not be happy with anything. Go pick up a copy of "A Complaint-Free World" and challenge yourselves to the 21 days of NO complaining. Not so sure if many of you would make it even ONE day without complaining. Things could be worse...

Same old stuff! Boy were you duped by Safeway, City of Pleasanton!!
It looks like the Safeway in Dublin or at Santa Rita. Absolutely nothing different. I'll stick to Raley's; I prefer quality over quantity. Lifestyle store, really? The cashier told me she's been hearing that from a lot of people going through her line. I used my free coupons (which most of the free stuff was gone from the shelves) and got charged full price for what I thought was comparable. Also a guy handing out Dole free coupons and I got charged full price for that item too. Buyers beware. Back to my new Lifestyle Safeway to get my money back. Grrrr!!!

This is just another Safeway store... and "Lifestyle" is a just bigger Safeway with more of the same stuff.
Marketing and pure switch and bait.
Nothing new. What is the new "concept", I would like to ask?
a resident of Castlewood

Not impressed. Its Safeway. Nothing organic except a small section. So much for its new concept. Its just a Safway pretending to be different but it is 99.9% the same Safeway as u find anywhere else. Boo!

Seriously? All the whining about parking -- what the heck did you expect at a grand opening... an empty parking lot? You must not have tried to negotiate parking at Sprouts or TJs anytime recently.
And on McD's... if you don't like it, don't eat it. But stop judging those who do.
For those who aren't sufficiently impressed with the new store's healthy options, then please go spend your whole paycheck somewhere else so the rest of us who do appreciate the choice and value Safeway delivers don't have to deal with you.
Thanks for the beautiful new store Safeway! It sure beats looking at a barren, weed infested field. So thrilled to hear from clerks that we'll also get a gas station next year. Woo-hoo!

The Safeway Corporation and the Pleasanton City Council should be ashamed of themselves for "duping" the people of Pleasanton. THIS IS NOT A STORE COMPARABLE TO WHOLE FOODS!
It is the same old Safeway food which is no better than a fast food outlet. They didn't even put a Jamba Juice in it as they have done in some of their stores. A Jamba Juice would be the only thing that attracts me to this store. Sorry to see a beautiful piece of empty land filled with another overbuilt strip plaza. Shame on all who were involved in this "bait and switch" marketing.

Who claimed it was going to be another Whole Foods? Why is another overpriced 'hole foods' a benefit anyway? It may be fine for the folks from Ruby Hills that can afford to overpay for food that is marketed as being more elite than regular grocery chain food, but in the end it's all the same.
a resident of Parkside
on Nov 23, 2011 at 1:28 pm
No Jamba Juice? Well, makes no difference to me. If there was no Starbucks, so much the better. I've been done being ripped off by chain food places that offer foods and drinks with absolutely no personality. The same ol' thing over and over. Assembly line style. Haven't set foot in a chain food place in about 25 years, and probably won't for the rest of my life.
As far as the new Safeway goes, it may be the same as the other stores, but it will be a good location for folks living in the area. It is the closest for me now, so I'll be checking it out soon. They make some decent rustic breads. Meats area hit and miss, and as far as produce, o one can beat the Farmer's Market, so they can sell all the organic produce they want, but it won't be bought by me. I prefer freshly picked, locally grown fruis and vegetables. And the vendors are also very nice.

We are becoming another Dublin. Had a chance to make the entreance to Pleasanton look really neat, we punted. Now we are just another town as you drive along the freeway. Boxes. Just another Safeway Store everyone when you all get over the hype. How about a Wendy's? Or are we only a Safeway and McDonald's Town?

Too bad a tacky strip shopping center has taken over where a pristine field once was. Plus remember when you'd see farmers and tractors out there farming the land? And the deer? Too bad those days are gone.
Lugnut, Pleasanton is already worse than Dublin.

Are you people this untrained in the matters of business to write:
"Look up the new franchise starting called The Melt. Or make it a LaBoulange. But no more McDonalds."
The Developers risk all their money to build a shopping center, that the city approves. The tenants that want to be in the property negotiate with the developer. The tenant moves in. The developer gets richer (too bad for you) and you stay poor.
The City has no say in what tenants approach the developer you socialists. It is social engineering that is causing this country to fail, as capitalism is not allowed to thrive. You morons, you idiots, don't like McDonalds? Don't eat there!!! But here's a fact, Americans love McDonalds and we will continue to eat there. Get control of your own life and lusts and desires, before trying to control anyone else!!!
