The man who provided the alcohol that led to the death of Laurel Williams will serve the remainder of his sentence after a recent DUI arrest.
Paul Stonebarger of Brentwood was ordered to serve three months in county jail last year, after a deal between the court and the Williams family.
Stonebarger was arrested in San Ramon in late May or early June and police here found out about it soon afterward, according to Pleasanton police Sgt. Robert Leong.
Stonebarger was charged with a violation of his probation and the judge “pretty much sent him to jail for the rest of his term,” Leong said.
That’s 270 days Stonebarger will face in additional time on the DUI charge as well, according to Leong.
Williams was 19 when she was killed in October 2007 in a drunken driving crash on Foothill Road. Her friend, Katie McKewon, who was behind the wheel, is serving a four-year sentence at Chowchilla State Prison for gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing great bodily injury.
Stonebarger originally faced up to a year in jail for buying large quantities of alcohol at a Dublin liquor store for a house party attended by Williams and McKewon that was held in Pleasanton the night before the crash.
i think this type of vandalism is just unthinkable. it shows an utter disrespect for the community, other people’s property and art in general. this act of destroying a statue serves no purpose that i can see.
what, did the perpetrator have a beef with the fishing industry?
this act says volumes about the values of the perpetrator. how we react and what we do as a community about this says a lot about our values as a community.
senseless vandalism like this has to stop.

Pleasanton made headlines all over for being the only place in the Bay Area that these statues are going to be displayed. An uncle in Missouri had a brief article about our town!! Now what? We are going to be known as the place where works of art aren’t safe from thieves? To whomever took the fishing pole, great refelction of Pleasanton, thanks a lot!
Its great to see that cutting this kid some slack and hoping that he learned something from Laurels death worked so well. How sad is this…
I can not believe after what happened to Laurel and everything he said he was sorry for he got a DUI! Um hello, i know a little program that is amazing called AA!!!! Get a clue! Before you take another life!
Why can’t somebody see that this man has a problem with Alcohol and needs help, the system not working. When will this issue be taken serious by the Judges, The Court System and Legislation before it gets to this point. How many people need to die before it gets the attendtion that is needed? We also need to remember the amout money being spent on the promotion of alcohol sales and consumption which influences certain actions – Hello People Wake up
