“Road Warriors 2010,” a fundraiser for wounded military heroes, will hold its kick off event next Sunday at the Pleasanton Ridge Park. There will be an information booth, cookies and trails to explore from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The “open road” event allows participants to pick the places they want to run, walk, hike or bike, a unique format among sporting fundraisers. It is also unique in that participants have five months, not one day to complete their miles and gather donations Participants accumulate 100 sponsored miles of run, walk, hike or bike at their own pace, in their favorite places, any time between between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Families and individuals of any age and skill level can raise money for wounded vets and have fun in the out of doors at the same time, said Candyce Roberts, the group’s coordinator.

Proceeds raised will go to the Wounded Warrior Project and Freedom Alliance scholarship fund,
