Town Square

Suggestion to Pleasanton Weekly...

Original post made by Mark, Downtown, on Jul 30, 2009

I recommend that you add a "Politics" category to your TownSquare Forum and then only allow the user to select the category of postings they want to view. If people wanted to view your TownSquare board but don't like all the political comments, then this would allow them to only see their preferred categories.

There could be an "ALL Categories" view available, but that should not be the default category that one sees upon clicking the TownSquare section.

If the above were implented, people preferring to view the Politics category should have very little to complain about regarding perceived imbalances of topics assuming that they are categorized properly. Also, if you (ie. PW) staff believe that a posting is not categorized properly you could either move it yourself or delete it because of improper categorization.

I was thinking of that myself.

At the top of the page there is an index and one can select all categories, or just a specific catergory.

Adding Politics would be good. Then those interested could go to that topic area.

The only drawback would be that people would have to go to each catergory one at a time and not see the line item topics, for a qucick clance at the new posts.

I agree 100% that allowing the political discussions to migrate into any catergory is a big problem.

Hmmm, topic police.

I doubt the PW wants to go there.

I suggest that you ignore comments that don't fit your world view or comments you may feel are not in the correct catagory.

Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

Law Student,

FYI, if you hit the "Message Board View" (at the top, under the topic list and inbetween "Post a new Topic" and "Return to Home Page" all of the threads (no matter what topic) are listed in most recently commented on order.
