Given Pleasanton has no desire of ever letting the local WalMart TRULY compete with Safeway or other grocery providers (yet they let a new competitor enter into Rosewood Plaza), I wouldn't be surprised if they looked to Dublin as an alternative.
I too would like to see it confirmed. Seems ironic this board is talking PARCEL TAX for the schools yet many are okay with SALES TAX REVENUE going to Dublin.

Seems like sucide for the property owner to allow a Walmart next to a Target. I heard the old Expo might be a Whole Foods

From what I understand it is not going to be a full fledged Walmart store but something they call a Neighborhood Market. No garden center or hardware, automotive, paint etc. Emphasis on groceries.
Would have bakery, deli, meat market.
Pleasanton wouldn't even let Walmart expand their grocery section here.
Guess thats what happens tho when Safeway is in their back pocket.
Alot of people don't like Walmart, but why should I pay $5 for shampoo if I can buy it at Walmart for $3?

Mayor Sabranti spoke at the Dublin Rotary Club meeting today. He mentioned that Whole Foods was looking at east Dublin in a newly constructed building but it's being held up due to financing issues. Namely, the construction lender wants the development to be nearly fully leased. Plain English, it's not going to happen for awhile.
With regards to WalMart in the old Expo, this is news to me and does not make any sense. Unless, WalMart is trying out something new. Nothing was mentioned at today's luncheon.
I will see if can find out something tomorrow at Dublin's State of the City meeting.

Thank you Dublinmike. Every employee I have asked about it at Walmart says that they have been told this is happening. Not just one person, but several say this.
They say it will be like the Modesto store. Never been there so can't say what that is like.
Supposedly they have already taken possession of the building and have begun remodeling

Millie, that's interesting. I spoke with Mayor Sabanti, Councilmember
Don Biddle and Linda Maurer, Assistant to the City Manager for Economic Development at today's State of the City and their response was that nothing is happening. There were some inquiries but that is all.
Well, I guess we'll have to wait & see.

Thanks so much for taking your time to inquire.
You just have to wonder how these rumors get started.
I do appreciate your efforts.

A little more info about this. I just asked one of the dept managers at Walmart where they had heard this and she said that the store manager Sharon Rodrigues announced it at last weeks managers meeting. She said that corporate had announced it and said they had taken possesion of the property.
Interesting that Walmart would know all this and the city of Dublin doesn't. But then again, perhaps they do know and just aren't making the information public yet. That IS a possibility I guess.
