I'm Red and I'm Scared

Original post made by J. Talis III, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Sep 11, 2012

Don't get me wrong, I am a Republican, but more of a Rhino according to my friends. However, over the last few years, I felt the Republicans would achieve amazing victories, especially considering what I can the ODI (Oh_DEE) Factor, i.e., The "Obama Did It" factor. I wasn't comfortable demonizing a person like that, not so much because it was inhumane or even the moral issue of calling a person names. It had more to do with giving a person so much power. It's my belief that if you demonize a person it's the same as anointing a saint. You give a person superhero powers (for either good or evil) and the subtleties of what they are doing in the trenches goes out the window.

But, more important is how conservatives can't seem to muster a good race after GWB. California was debacle at the senate and gubernatorial level and now we have a lukewarm run at the oval office. I feel that if Obama should win this time around, I want to rally my friends back to the table and suggest that maybe being a Rhino is not such a bad thing. Maybe it's time the centrists take the spotlight and lead with a steadier hand.

Does it appear I have thrown in the towel. Yes, I have. Mitt just isn't doing it for me. I'm not sure he's doing it for any of us on the conservative side of the isle.

Maybe I am wrong. Enlighten me. I'm all ears.

Hello union troll, I guess you're back from the convention now. We missed you. Really.

As far as I can tell Romney doesn't have a lot to say about unions.

J Talis III, how can you deny that Mitt is the savior of our country? His plan to create jobs and reduce the federal deficit is clear, specific, and guaranteed to turn this country around. By supporting Obama, you support godless secularism, rights for womenfolk, international cooperation, and treating homosexuals as if they were real people, and a tax plan that empowers the middle class.

Take a good, hard look at yourself in the mirror. Is this who you REALLY want to be?

Since this election is about the economy (because I say so and the media have followed in lockstep), my running mate and I haven't wanted to tire out the public by getting into such inane matters as to whether or not I pay any taxes or what kinds of tax loopholes we're going to fill beyond making rich people even richer.

But here is a stark difference between my opponent and I. As you know, Obama saved the auto industry by giving it stimulus money to continue operating while it dug itself out of bankrupcy (which it has done).

I, on the other hand, simply wanted the auto industry to go belly up. It would have put 300,000 union thugs, I mean workers, out of a job, but that was the beauty of it. The union could have been smashed, and the car corps could have rebuilt from the bottom up, paying nonunion workers minimal wages. There is just no rationale for why auto workers should make a good wage when bootstrapper picker-uppers like Ann and myself have to get by on 15-20 million per year.

Mitt -- He loves God, our fighting men and women, and he can recite the Pledge of Allegiance without a teleprompter (unlike one of our muslim Kenyan friends)

Ryan sided with Rahm yesterday on the teachers union strike, so if that's not a statement about union power, corruption, entitlement, I'm not sure what else they'd need to do.
The fact that R's would ever side with Rahm on anything is very telling. Oh, what are dems to do, biting the hand that feeds them........

All I want to say is that it is disgusting that the teachers would strike during this time when muslim extremists, some perhaps from Kenya (we don't yet know), have stormed our embassies and killed American personnel. That kind of craven and crass response is not welcome here in America.

Mitt -- He'll always act presidential in times of crisis, which aren't of course of his doing but derive from the incompetents on the other side of the aisle.

@ Scum Sam

Wow! First of all I am NOT a troll. I am a legitimate person, I owned my own business for 30 years, I do business the finest Silicon Valley Companies in the world, I have been married for 35 years, three kids all excellent achievers in Universities, one with 4 top degrees in Math, Physics, electrical engineering and computer engineering, the other a top economist and the third working in the corporate office of a major bank. I value my country, and I value the future of our collective lifestyles.

Now with that said, to have the gumption to think that by expressing my true and honest feelings, that I somehow don't fit into the Republican or conservative venue, or worse as Sam Scum would infer that I am a troll, that is exactly what I suggest is wrong with my party.

Extremists rule. If you don't march in line with their tactics they resort to name calling. That's it, name calling. My statement is that I am saddened by this type of approach to politics. I don't see Mitt waging a great fight. That shouldn't make me a victim of verbal or intellectual abuse.

Let me repeat one thing. It is the sophomoric attitude of extremist right name callers both left and right that are the real problem in America. They symbolize everything wrong with adhering to the basic freedom of speech. Yes, I emphatically do NOT being called names. But, honestly, I am use to it by my Right friends. Too bad, there is so much more at stake than simple 3rd grade hair pulling to choose the leadership of our country.

@ Sam Scum

You are a truly pathetic human being. You seek the low end of life and you have found it. Your name sake belies it. Pond Scum = Sam Scum. I am sure your life is a wonderfully small place that you control. Your children must be proud ... do you speak to them? Didn't think so. Low life, unfortunate human Sam Scum. Get a life. Live at a higher level than the lowest human being and you will find that using one ounce of intelligence is better than where you reside.

You and your kind make this forum a puky place to visit.

My heavens. Perhaps we should take a break and give me and my campaign team credit for running the excellent campaign thusfar. As you know, our mantra is that the economy is bad, or, more specifically, that unemployment remains high (which is a real giggle of course because rich guys like me make higher profits when unemployment is high). We've been able to wage our campaign with this negative theme from the get-go. And you know what? We been able to do so without revealing our own economic plan. Tighten up tax loopholes? Just trust me! Dismantle medicare? No, no, look at my past business leadership! Tax returns? Trust me! Now, let's get back to bashing the guy in office who, have you heard, is really really really out of his depth. So, c'mon guy, give some credit where credit is due!

Mitt -- He's the kind of guy you want at the helm during an international snafu or crisis or, well, you know.

Bill, you have it backwards. The Republicans have been so hell bent on defeating President Obama (it's well documented) that they have nearly destroyed this country's economy by stopping every attempt to push it forward.

We need stimulus, not cowed into a gopher's hole by the Tea Party.

Vote for President Obama.

This is great... listening to all you guys arguing over Democrat or Republican... heck I don't care who is in power... You play the hand you're dealt... kept my nose to the grind stone and made a few $... and now taking advantage of Democrat's inability to understand economics and using "sugar rush" stimuli to juice the markets, now making a "killing" in the stock market, while all you guys are looking for a job, taking pay cuts, paying $4 for gas, swallowing 50% college tuition increases, health care insurance premiums going through the roof... my family is set, but your kids will have to pay the Bill! ... when you guys figure out that this Keynesian stuff doesn't work and we get back to a real American Capitalistic economy... I will simply put my $ back to work building wealth and leverage my dollars in building businesses and acquiring Real Estate ...

I loved the 80's-90's - good times ... got to witness each recovery from too much Govt ... Carter was a great wake-up call! 20% interest rates, gas lines, 8% unemployment, commodity prices going through the roof ... Reagan was fun watching him show everyone how Capitalism works and kick the Communist butts without breaking a sweat... was even more fun watching the Republicans come in 1994 after 40 years of Democratic Congresses and show Clinton how to balance a budget! Wow that was fun!! and ride that Technology wave that Real Capitalism generates... Life is Good!!

I just Hope America is able to withstand this latest assault on the American Ideal and we again become the World Power and Capitalistic model that everyone respects... We should never apologize for our Success!!

We've been able to avert disaster in the past, hopefully we can pull this one off ... Enjoy the ride...

Righto Great, this 'sugar rush' stimuli is really bad news for me as a senior with no pension, just $1000. mo Social Sec and savings. Savings that will now become worthless because of inflation. Not surprising, MORE rewards for NON-savers, punish savers, including senior savers. cruel. Cowardly. Easy, but temporary shiny object, to the detriment of our economy and country in the long run.
Surely seniors will understand the damage to their savings. I was barely OK, but now I will definitely have to live a much shorter life than intended.

Now I understand where you're coming from, Scum Scam. Thanks for the explanation. Too bad you didn't prepare for retirement--no 401k, no pension, no IRA. Clearly Obama is to blame. He probably went back in time and convinced your younger self to make poor decisions and fail to plan for his future. Damn those Democrats!

Taliss - "Rhino is not a bad thing" Seriously, what the heck are you saying, I agree with Sam Scum; you are full of it. Rinos are designation for politicians to get the vote of republican voters; it absolutely makes no sense to say a voter is rino, if that is the case, then they are not republican. Does that make sense to you? Think about it, why associate with a party you do not vote with or agree with so much that you make posts on local message boards? Get over yourself, and your four degrees or whatever you got under your belt; all that means nothing, your vote is no more than my vote or the bum's on the street.
