Original post made on Aug 4, 2011

In a blow to Oakland, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission voted 12-2 at a marathon meeting this week in favor of relocating a major regional government center in San Francisco instead of Oakland.

Save some money, shut these commissions down. I'll bet no one can name one positive accomplishment for any of them.

This article doesn't give all of the info needed! Why do the agencies need to move? Why do they need to spend $150 million to buy a new building? How much are they supposed to be saving by doing this? I can't believe this nonsense still goes on.

Bob, I'm not against consolidating some of these commissions/agencies, but be careful what you wish for because just about every transportation project in the nine County Bay Area Region, including the improvements on I-580 and many others are a result of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

I guess what I'm saying is before making a blanket statement of "shut these commissions down", don't you think you should at least look to see what they are responsible for? I'll post the link for you. If you take a little time researching what MTC does and you still believe it should be eliminated then I respect that, but at least take the time before making a blanket statement.

In my opinion eliminating MTC like agencies in ever region in the country would create way more bureaucracy at the Federal, city, and county level.

Just my two cents
