PUSD, Armageddon and Trust

Now that the hyperventilating of Measure E has died down, and Measure E supporters have hopefully paid off their debts, and the Pleasanton Teachers Union filed (on May 2!) all their PAC campaign reports going back to 01/2009, and the CORE/PPIE campaign is finally underway, and K-3 CSR has been cancelled and then magically restored, we know that PUSD and Measure E leaders have been analyzing why they lost.
Superintendent Ahmadi has been advised this past year on several occasions that she has inherited a "Trust Deficit" brought on by prior superintendents. The advice was coupled with recommendations to restore that trust through sound educational, managerial and fiscal excellence and new best practices in K-12 education.
This year's budget process, together with the Measure E campaign, was an exercise in Armageddon fear mongering as described here (Web Link).
Rather than comb through voter records to determine which supporters did not vote and strategize how to run a better GOTV marketing/political campaign, PUSD would better serve the community by doing what is right for the students.
Restoring trust with effective educational leadership will serve PUSD and the community well.

The community does trust the school district. We have excellent schools. I support PUSD running a better marketing campaign. Doing that is doing the right thing for our students.

I agree with concerned parent. The post has a definite 'When did you stop beating your wife?' quality about it. Just a way for Start Afresh to trot out tired old views as a means probably of deflecting attention from more interesting, thought-provoking threads.

Seems like it is not over for Start Afresh's campaign to build distrust in this community. She preaches to distrust before listening to the facts, ignore the truth behind the school budget, and then claim fraud. She really takes us for idiots to think we haven't done our homework to find out what is going on at the state level to fund our schools. All that Start Afresh and her blog does is build more distrust for her and this fraction of our community that is out to take down what the rest of us work so hard to build. Really Start Afresh, what have you done for the schools to improve them?

Concerned - Yes, we have good schools in spite of protecting teacher and administration salaries while eliminating student programs and services. How much longer will the community support this?

Sleepless - If you are beating your wife, why not call it out? And if PUSD could free up more funds for student programs and services, is that not 'interesting and thought-provoking'?

Really? - Trust is earned. It is not earned by APT president Knaggs using the PUSD speakers pulpit to threaten Armageddon if Measure E doesn't pass. It is not earned by ex-mayor Mercer sowing fear in 2009 and again in 2011 that property values will fall if parcel taxes are not passed. And it is not earned by Superintendent Ahmadi hyper-exaggerating a $7.7m budget challenge while at the same time increasing teacher salaries and benefits by $1.8M by rescinding furlough days.

Holding elected and hired school officials to standards of integrity, honesty, transparency and fiscal excellence improves district governance. I can't help you if you don't see it as contributing to a better community. I believe our good school district can be much better. And that's what I'll keep working towards, in addition to contributing to and volunteering in the schools.

What are you doing for the schools to improve them?

If the district wants to build trust with the community, they need to look at some of their current practices. For example, the superintendent's contract is on the June21 agenda to be extended for one year and yet they do not include a copy of her contract in the packet. Only included is the revised language. Even though there is not a change in salary, how can a decision be made without all the components? And why should the public have to submit a formal request for the document? I did not find the contract on the district website, my apologies if I missed it.
