The signs must have violated the local anti-pornography laws.
Notice how Chet, and others on the left, view traditional American family values as "pornographic."
That speaks volumes about Chet and others on the left, including McNerney.
Most of his signs are posted illegally. You cannot post them on City or State land. There are several posted along 680 illegally.
Typical Tea Partier. The morals and laws only apply to everyone else.
b---you mean like the Pete Stark sign posted atop the signal light at the corner of Hopyard and W. Las Positas? Has he finally joined the Tea Party or is he just above the law like so many lib elites?
When you make broad generalizations about the Tea Party, it makes you look like a 'b'. Wear the shoe-it fits.
Glad to know I can take down some McNerney signs...and some McGovern & Karla signs too !
Steve, I have seen other campaign signs posted illegally here-and-there, most of which have largely been removed. However, David Harmer is the only one I have seen posting 6-foot-wide billboard-style signs illegally and repeatedly. You'll note that there are no other signs posted on 680. Mr Harmer has three huge, ugly signs in a half-mile stretch. Hmm.
And you are justifying his transgressions with someone else's behavior? What happened to Tea Party morals and self-responsibility? Like I said, those values only seem to apply to everyone else.
The signs were not posted illegally...all the other campaign signs that were posted in the same corner locations are still there. Perhaps this is the work of the same "tolerant" liberals who had a field day with taking down the Proposition 8 signs...just a thought...
Neighbor, just because they are there, doesn't mean they are legal.
Section 18.100-050 – Posting of political campaign signs on public property.
It is also unlawful for any person to post, place or affix a political campaign sign or cause to do the same, on or to any public property or utility structure.
Bernal and Stanley and Bernal and Nevada may be privately owned land. Campaign managers need to get permission from the owners' to put up signs. Perhaps the Harmer's supporters put them up thinking that it was free game, as the other signs were up there, and the owner took them down. There are a number of areas like that in Pleasanton.
The fences next to 680 and the Bernal-680 onramp are most certainly not private land. For a candidate and a group that is so self-righteous, I would think they'd make a more sincere attempt to play by the rules.
Tina- You need to learn to take a silly joke.
C'mon Chet, be nice, you know Republicans are humor-impaired and protected from discrimination due to their disability.
Come on, b, no doubt the persons who posted looked at what has been happening with Oak Grove and thought they might as well get in on the "using other people's property" racket in Pleasanton.
For those of you who bash the Tea Party along with other things rooted in American values - I say, move to Europe! Mcnerney is bad for our community and for America - his record reflects this...Time to wake up or stay home this election season!
Maybe they were confused and went back to the last two districts that he ran in unsuccessfully.
Reading the comments on this post is like watching reality TV. Mostly nauseating, sometimes humorous, and once in a wile someone actually has a good point. If you part their hair just right, you can actually see it!
The Tea Party members, in my opinion, are the most un-American, anti-Christian group I can imagine. They preach nothing but hate and division and should all go back and read the New Testament and teaching of Jesus one more time. The Grace of God has somehow gone right over their head, they missed the passage "Judge not, or you shall be judged. And one of their candidate's past forces her to start her latest campaign commercial with "I am not a witch!". If they gain control of the leadership of this country I just might go to Europe!
We can only hope that you and many others who think as you do join you in your move to Europe. You will be right at home there as much of Europe is now socialist.
A government that is big enough to give you all you want is big enough to take it all away.
Signs posted illegially and then taken down are fair game by either side. However, I've had signs in my yard removed by the right wingnuts. MY YARD. They trespass on my property and remove them because they don't agree with my opinions.
Because California is a liberal, left-wingist state!
Hate, fear and intollerance are not American family values.
With the DIRTY CAMPAIGN THAT MCNERNEY IS RUNNING, I PUT NOTHING PAST HIM. dirty campaigning signifies he has nothing left for you to vote for him.HE VOTED FOR THE STIMULUS PKG., OBAMACARE OR HEALTH CARE, AND ANY OTHER SPENDING PELOSI TOLD HIM TOO. HE DID NOT REPRESENT OUR DISTRICT.
@ Susan - I wanted the stimulus package, healthcare reform, financial reform, and the other items Congressman McNerny voted for, so yes, he does represent our district.
Dominic, I'm not the nostalgic type, and am really not interested in returning to 300-year-old values. The rest of the world has moved forward without us. We have an archaic and inhumane healthcare system, decaying infrastructure, and human rights and freedoms of religion (previously the envy of the world) that have fallen behind modern standards. It is time for us to catch up to the rest of the world before we become completely irrelevant. Call it what you want--the good ol' US of A is getting passed by.
That's right Susan, McNerny didn't listen to me either! I was in on a couple of his "town hall by phone" and he did NOT pay attention to the majority in his district. He listened to the party line. It's just a shame that more of the conservative voters stay home and don't make the effort to vote and make their opinion count. Leaving it for others to get it done. It's time people! engage, car pool to the polling place, have wine and cheese parties or Pizza and beer for your friends that go vote that day!
We need put forth a greater effort as McNerny is clinging to a thread, I hope voters BEAT FEET to the polls in November! I hope we are part of the solution to this mess! 12.6 unemployment ! Yikes !
that's right b - people from all over the world come to the U.S. to get surgery but We are old and archaic? get real, get educated, the U.S provides GREAT medical care, but let me ask, are they supposed to give it away for free when the doctors, researchers, nurses, biochemists, spend a fortune to educate themselves to continue producing? There is a COST involved in the the education of this great nations medical communities. The buildings, the supplies - somebody has to pay for all that, oh wait, that's right, you want the rich to pay for ALL of it right.
I'm not rich, but I know to get the best, you gotta work for it and EARN it. I like the barter system actually. Doctors used to be wealthy because patients provided care and services to them because the Dr. provided care and service to their families. We can't go that route anymore... too many costs involved.
Bob, that's the way it used to be. We're not so much the envy of the world anymore.
I agree, those things cost money. That's why people in other countries pay taxes--to get reliable healthcare and modern infrastructure. The free market works very well for many things, but not all things. Relative to the countries that are RAPIDLY passing us by in terms of their standard of living and international leadership (I'm not talking about Europe), we're actually not Taxed Enough Already.
But sure, let's try going back to the fabulous policies of the Republicans. We'll continue to see increases in our deficits, while our standard of living decreases and our reputation in the eyes of the rest of the world continues to diminish. That's the kind of leadership they showed during the past decade.
b - not taxed enough? what planet are you on? not Taxed enough - when did YOU lose YOUR family farm due to taxes. That's right homestead in 1763 in New England, and lost it because we aren't taxed enough yet. I've a better idea, you go live in those other countries where the healthcare is better than here and leave THIS free market system alone. go along now, don't drag us down that dirty road, you can leave you have that choice - wait, don't forget to pay your tax for leaving on the way out.
I'm not saying free market is perfect, I never liked that the banks and lenders were giving money so freely, yet I was put through the ringer when I applied for a loan. Those banks DESERVED to fail - yet they are still here poised, waiting for the timing that allows them to do it again.
First of all for the name that claims "True Christian" yet doesn't identify himself - you are the one quoting the Bible and judging others sir, not the Tea Party...I question your motives in your bias against thew Tea Party...
My post, if I came across as hateful, I apologize that was not my intent, I am just frustrated by so many folks continue to vote the same way swayed by the media, not looking at the issues and the candidates and what they truly stand for---meanwhile, our state and now our country continue to decline...
As for the 300 year old values and decaying healthcare system, this is a typical liberal argument that is made often with no basis in fact. What is a fact that others like the Prime Minister of Canada come here for Cancer and other serious healthcare treatments...Secondly, I'll take the values that our forefathers had when they built this great country than values of people today who think they are so smart that the constitution and laws should changed to fit their lifestyle and world view...
My votes go to Harmer, Whitman, Fiorina and will look for change that is for the greater good than the status-quo incumbents
Thank you for your intelligent posts, b. People like you make it tolerable for me to live here!
Why do you balk at a 2% tax increase, but think nothing of your employer paying $15,000/year for your family's healthcare plan? That's not free money, my dear Tea Partiers.
I just don't get this government=bad, private company=good thing. Public health plans in most countries are really quite good, especially considering how inexpensive they are, relative to ours. Just because the payment is called a "tax" instead of an "insurance premium" does not make it inherently worse.
By the way, last I looked, David Harmer's illegal signs are still hanging all alone on 680. I called his campaign office twice this week to complain. Typical Tea Partier--talks high morals and values, while doing just the opposite.
Just a reminder about why Jerry McNerney should not be sent back to Washington....
Susan "DIRTY CAMPAIGN THAT MCNERNEY IS RUNNING" really? It's your imagination. You're trying to cover for Harmer's dirty tactics.
With the dirty tactics by the GOP and Fox News' oafishly slavish buffoons like you I am not surprised by your comments.
Educated... what an oxymoron.
Hey mepartypatriot and A "True Christian"...
Most of America disagrees with you. Unfortunately, most of CA hasn't wised up yet.
Our fine Congressman Jerry McNerney is running a very clean and proper campaign and correctly deserves our votes and support. We need to keep Jerry working for us all in Washington D.C.
Replace McNerny... with what? Another extreme? Replacing McNerny is not a reason to vote for Harmer! America hasn't wised up that this constant swinging back and forth between extremes is bad for business. Americans were tired of Bush so they voted in Obama. Now they're tired of Obama and will swing too far in the other direction, repeating the cycle.
What effect will this swinging between extremes have? According to one opinion, the Tea Party is like a bunch of Viking Berserkers preparing the political battlefield for the main invasion force: the Militant Middle. Web Link
"President Obama, elected largely by independents and moderates who were furious at Republicans, yes, but also at the status quo and the deeply divisive politics practiced by the two main parties. "
"measuring the power of independents and moderates is tough because by definition, they don't sign up for party pot luck suppers. But they are, he believes, nonetheless united by an ethos.
"There is a moral thing here," he says. "Moderates believe good behavior should be rewarded and bad behavior punished."
That's why bailouts of the banks, Wall Street, and the big automakers made them so angry. He adds that other characteristics of independents are a belief that the two major parties are putting their own good above the good of the nation and that the political deck has been horribly stacked against the voters in the middle."
"Independents face hurdles that the two parties long ago knocked down for their own players, in terms of getting onto ballots, obtaining government campaign funding, being included in debates. The parties argue that they have been the vanguard of politics in this nation for many generations; they have earned certain privileges. But what I've heard from countless de facto members of the Militant Middle for several years now is, "We're fully a third of the electorate, and yet the gatekeepers from the parties keep us from being represented anywhere. How is that democracy?""
"It is worth noting that no one I talked to for this story seemed particularly interested in joining the Tea Party movement. But in a way, many seemed grateful for it. Because call them patriots, troublemakers, or berserkers, the Tea Party is giving both parties their first real scare since Ross Perot snatched up more than 18 percent of the presidential vote in 1992. And the Militant Middle thinks that could help.
Never mind that some Tea Partiers are virulently anti-moderate. As Democratic strategist and CNN analyst Donna Brazile told me, "The Tea Party is going to knock out the moderates in both parties."
The Militant Middle believes the nation overall is so moderate, and the moderates are so ready to be roused, that the Tea Party can't last. And they think once the rampage is over, both major parties may be so battered that they'll be more than willing to strike a deal with the middle to prevent a new uprising."
You'd call our Founding Fathers "extreme."
What an absurd response. There's real world problems that need to be addressed by reality-based practical solutions yet both parties just continue to offer fantasy-land ideology in the pursuit of their own interest in staying in power and Americans fall for it.
The campaign McNerney is running is anything but clean. He vilifies Harmer for doing his job as an attorney. Corporations have the right to a legal defense, just like individuals do. Liberals will defend the rights of serial killers to have a defense paid for by me and you, but don't think those evil, horrible corporations which are the favorite target of Democrats, don't have the right to pay for their own defense. Never mind that lawyers contribute much more to Democrats than Republicans. Web Link
In my opinion, if you don't like what a politician has done, you have an obligation to give someone else a shot at it. Harmer is by no means extreme. He's conservative, but not extreme. If we don't like what he does, then it's someone else's turn in 2 years. Good people don't run for office often enough because of the huge advantage incumbants have. I think the best thing about this campaign season is that we are slowing chipping away at that advantage.
If you like Nancy Pelosi, you should vote for McNerney because he votes with her over 95% of the time. (He claims to be moderate, but I don't consider that moderate.) If you don't like Pelosi, you should give Harmer a chance.
So, getting back to Pleasantonian,"Because California is a liberal, left-wingist state!"
Well, let's look at the Central Valley, Orange County, west San Diego, San San Bernardino County, Danville and Pleasanton...what's that you say?
Get a grip.
We gave the GOP and Harmer policies a chance and they proved beyond any doubt to be a total failure. We are not stupid and will not return to GOP policies. We have to thank Jerry McNerney and Pres Obama for leading us all out of the Great Bush/GOP recession. We now have again a growing economy. It would be growing much faster for us all if we did not have the GOP party of no getting in all of our ways. We will never forget how the GOP ruined our economy and how that were not part of the solutions.
Chet [removed] - our economy is growing? Unemployment seems to have settled in at 9-10% and that doesn't include those who are off unemployment and not working. If McNerney is so proud of his record of voting with Pelosi, Reid and Obama for the stimulus, Tarp, Obamacare, union bailouts etc. then why doesn't he stand on his record. Instead of stating he is a democrat, he keeps touting that he is a moderate. Why did he slither into Oakland to hook up with Joe at a private fundraising event? Why doesn't he take David up on the other debates instead of just agreeing to one that was closed to the public and put on public television? Why doesn't Jerry run a campaign on the issues - instead of condoning the DCCC slurs of David. To me, Jerry has approved those messages and that Chet is your Congressman - a liar and coward. Come on Jerry - let's hear you and David debate the issues!
Steve, yes, by nearly all meaningful economic measures, the economy is growing and has improved substantially in the past 18 months. Statistic after statistic, and chart after chart, show that. Yes, things are still really bad, especially employment--we were in a VERY deep hole. But yes, since the current administration took office, all trends have been for the better. Sorry to disappoint you.
Steve, take a look at this story and chart. Isn't this exactly what the Republicans say they want?
Interesting link b
It seems like such a game. Keep voting no to all change, make the party look bad, make people angry at the party, vote in the opposite party, try to make changes (many the same policies) so your party can take the credit, opposite party votes it down.....it's an endless cycle that all seems to revolve around this need to be "the winner".
I wonder why McNerney has not removed his 2 8x4 foot signs along 580 and another along Highway 99 toward Modesto? I noticed them both there yesterday, Monday, Dec.,13th..It seems he is just as bad in not properly removing the eye sores too!
