Original post made by Diva, Birdland, on May 27, 2010

Our immigration system is clearly broken. We need amnesty now.

and why are we supposed to feel sorry for a mail-order bride who left her baby daddy in Russia, came here and broke up with her second shot at love, then within three years made two more babies with hubby number three and got a divorce from him -- all the while knowing her immigration status, and presumably knowing that the divorces (which already ripped a family apart, now three times) would subject her to deportation.

the deportation isn't ripping a family apart, divorce has ripped a family apart

I am just trying to figure out why this is someone i am supposed to have sympathy for

I don't feel like I have enough info from this article to say "amnesty" is needed. She left Russia with a 3 year old? What about that child's father? Has her son ever seen his bio Dad since he's been in the U.S.? She's been here 13 years and hasn't gotten citizenship for herself or her young son? It sounds like she's an intelligent/resourceful woman, she has begun her own business.

This is exactly the kind of person who just may need amnesty. The problem is giving amnesty to "everyone", even those that are less deserving and living off of our generous welfare/entitlement system. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we already give amnesty to a huge number of illegal immigrants in the 1970's? Are we setting the precedent for granting amnesty to anyone & everyone who comes into our country ILLEGALLY every 30 or 40 years???? This is not what I pay all my taxes for!

All illegal immigrants who can prove that they worked and paid taxes in the last 3 years should be given amnesty.

To 'Clueless' - Why? Why three years?

I say 3 minutes in the US and an "illegal" qualifies for AMNESTY!

Clueless, DCOT does not have a need to know. If you recommend 3 years, so be it!

Incidentally, lighten up a bit, you might see the light...tee hee hee, tee hee hee...
