Downtown Statues

Original post made by Resident, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on May 13, 2010

Im not crazy about them. Some look like real people with metallic face paint and they are all in odd locations. Were these things a gift or did I/we pay for them???

There have been a couple of articles and threads on this topic. I believe the town spent $18k to have the statues displayed here temporarily.

I love watching the reaction that peopole have to the statues. I can't believe how many more people I have seen downtoen since they came to town. Yes they may look a little weird to some , but they are statues after all. I think the placement was very well thought out. The soilder across from the Veterns building , the runner in front of FleetFoot, the dog and owner in front of Murphys Paw, the fisherman along side the creek. the lady comming out of the wine store and the children in front of Meadowlark dairy. Pluss the two gentlemen look very comfortable on their park benchs. I love them all. OH I almost forgot the window washer and the mother with kids in tow. All in all great fun and a nice asset to Main street. Well done Pleasanton.

So Pleasanton pays $18,000 for a temporary visit of some statues you don't like. Meanwhile, Dublin gets the Infinty Ribbon forever and paid for with federal road funds. You Pleasanton folks can poke at Dublin and Livermore all you want but it seems they have a government that is more effective at getting out of towm money for projects than Pleasanton has. Let's face it, Dublin and Livermore have movie theaters and Pleasanton has none. You should consider stopping all the infighting for a couple years and see if you can move that town forward for a change instead of in circles.
