Dell bait and switch in February flier

On the last page of the Dell flier I received today (2/12/10) they have a Dell Studio 540 going for $469. I tried to use their e-value code to get the deal online and the code didnt work. Then I called them and they said the deal is no longer available, but they would sell me a more expensive computer instead.

This is classic bait and switch and was designed to lure people onto their website in order for them to sell a more expensive computer. Im sure the computer on the flier was never available.

Of course they note that the advertisement says "Limited quantities", and they are all sold out. I called the same day I received the flier. They refused to offer an equivalent system for that price, instead offering a computer $100 more expensive.

There isnt much recourse for consumers against this type of tactic, so the best I can do let everybody know about Dell's trade practices.

I got that flier in the mail today also. $469 is unrealistically cheap for a quad core, so Im not surprised that they didnt honor the deal.

However, I can see how it would attract attention and potentially get someone to pay more than the initially intended.

I guess Dell is resorting to tricks to drum up business...

This is nothing new with Dell and that is why I will not buy their product. The company I worked for used nothing but Dell (for a while) and they negotiated an employee discount that, apparently, Dell never heard of.
