Care to see new results of the War on Poverty's "Head Start" Program?

Original post made by Janet, Amador Estates, on Jan 23, 2010

How's that "Head Start" program doing, you wonder? Remember, it was created in 1965 as part of Lyndon Johnson's "War on Poverty" program. How's that War doing? When are we going to "pull out" because this War is lost? Maintaining this program only increases dependency on Government and prolongs poverty.

Democrats like to only measure "intentions" vs. real "outcomes."

Well, below is an abstract of findings hot-off-the-press dated Jan. 21, 2010 entitled "Head Start Earns an F: No Lasting Impact for Children by First Grade". >>> Web Link

In 2009, Democrats poured our hard-earned money to the tune of $25 billion into this failed program. Yet they want to increase its funding. This program has failed, just like most other liberal social programs.

Abstract: Recently released results from the Head Start Impact Study indicate that the benefits of participating in Head Start almost completely disappear by first grade. While other studies have previously assessed Head Start's effectiveness, this is the only study that used a rigorous experimental design. Given this strongly negative evaluation, Congress should reconsider spending more than $9 billion per year on a program that produces few positive lasting effects. Furthermore, instead of creating yet another new federal preschool program at a cost of $8 billion, Congress and the Obama Administration should focus on terminating, consolidating, and reforming existing preschool and child care programs to better serve children's needs and to improve efficiency for taxpayers.

Janet, Janet, Janet. Don't you know that liberals only care about their good intentions? Results don't matter as long as the intentions were really, really good! And please let's not bring up facts like the Head Start program in the future, OK? It just makes the libs uncomfortable, and we can't have that, now can we?
