Climate Conference in Denmark

What do you all think of this issue at hand? Is Pleasanton doing enough in it's part in being green friendly with the new recycling garbage cans we have?

How do we measure our standard of living with future generation's standard of living when they are not in existence yet?

Are the demonstrators wrong for rioting? Are the police wrong for using tear gas?

As usual Al Gore made statements that were completely false. I don't
think they accomplished anything but I'm sure Presdident Obama will throw billions of dollars at something that many (including scientists) do not believe is manmade. I'm all for conservation and doing what we can, but throwing all that money at the problem is not what our country should be doing right now. JMHO of course.

Pleasanton theatrics waste more 'energy' than saved.
Next generation? The debts being created daily for our children are criminal.. Demark conference ?? Shut up and come home. Yesterday, John Kerry told them the US would be on the right they were clammoring for the US taxpayers to pick up the tab for the world. Well, if Obama makes commitments from US taxpayer's he may as well not bother coming home.! Maybe Obama should not have waited for 11 months to SAY he was ready to START addressing middle-class taxpayER's job issues ! To date his so-called 'stimulus' has been about poor 'inner-city' who do not PAY taxes anyway,..and wall street bankers, like Geithner & others in the administration who AVOID paying taxes, and for protecting all public UNION employees. For 11 months Obama & congress have done zero for mid-level, middle-income engineer types in companies with 80 employees. He TALKs about incentives, but for 11 months nothing for actual taxpayERS !! So, our debt and deficit are already cruel to the next generation. Only the worst kind of politician would even hint at taking on 'green' world expenditures to burden real US taxPAYERS ! The middle-class won't be able to attend college, the downward spiral has started. How dare Gore, Obama, Kerry, Boxer & Pelosi blab about taking care of the world, when there are no solutions in sight for quite some time for taxpayERS at home. Shut up or don't BOTHER coming home. The masses are at their limits. Time to get out of the clouds and plant feet on the ground!! Life is full of choices. So far it's been about selected groups, and destroying &constructing a convoluted mess so Obama can tell his core constituency that he gave 30 million of them 'health-care' within in his 'first' year. The rest of us will forever be in a living hell because doing it "RIGHT" has never been a goal. All of these choices have pretty well determined, there is 'no green' left to GIVE to the WORLD. Americans first ! please !

The single biggest lie ever to have been subjected to the people of the US & now the world. Global warming.

When will people finally wake up?

Global warming in and of itself is not a lie. The Earth regularly goes through periods of warming and cooling. The debate is whether or not it is man-made and therefore should governments regulate this activity.

The new recycling program with PGS is forcing me to recycle LESS. I live in a townhome with a 1 car garage. Therefore, I have a 35 gallon garbage can and a 35 gallon recycle can. There are lots of items being thrown away now that used to be recycled, such as pizza boxes, frozen meal containers, etc. So my garbage rate went up, and I recycle less. Excellent.

Outlined against a blue-gray Copenhagen sky the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as famine, pestilence, destruction and death. These are only aliases. Their real names are: Obama, Reid, Pelosi & Gore.

I would like to see a public debate on the global warming issue. It may be warming, climate goes through cycles. The real debate is humans involvement. I'm just a little suspicious of a guy who claims he invented the Internet and who gets his data from people who cook and then destroy the data, claim he knows all about the climate.

My apology to Grantland Rice for the opening paragraph.

@ Joe- You might want to do a little fact checking. Al Gore never claimed to have invented the Internet. What he did do way back when was to see the potential for the ARAPNET, a military computer network, to become something much more. He was the sole Senator to push for increased funding to develop what we now call the Internet.

Bill O'Reilly among other Fox News types twisted his words and deeds to create the urban legend of "Al Gore claims he created the Internet".

Right you are Andy. I have a single garage my car doesn't even fit in. Am I suppose to bring in my can and eat my box dinner on top of the can. No big deal for our elite officials to demand and control our lives !

Curious, you offer nothing of substance and totally irrelevant to the subject. The fact is the climate insanity is out of control and destroying our lives and our future both short and long-term.

Thanks for your comments. I am glad to hear different views. I agree with Joyce in saying commiting billions of U.S. dollars will be a huge burden, but I would think it is better to address a problem we may face, rather than not address anything at all.

I also agree with Andy that the additional can makes it harden to use rather than create more "recycling." There has to be better ways Pleasanton can use it's money for green projects than trash cans.

I also would think that if there is more spending in green ambitions it will create more local jobs. A lot of my friends could use those jobs asap.

I think we've got lots of mixed issues going on with the "green" initiative. The first is to separate finding alternative renewable energies vs global warming. We MUST find renewable energy sources because our oil and coal will run out. Even more important is our national security and economy as we import huge amounts of oil as everyone knows. This issue is much more clear and concise then the ambiguous global warming which had to change its name to climate change because the global temperatures have decreased for the last decade or so.

Let's for a minute assume that any temperature rise over the last 100ish years is due to human factors (mostly CO2 emissions from fossil fuels). Which means we would need to return to CO2 output emission at or lower than 100 years ago to stop global warming. Which means we would need to decrease our fossil fuel use by 93% (roughly 27 billion tons today vs 2 tons in 1900) even the global population has increased by about 500%.

Using estimates, even if we eliminated every fossil fuel CO2 emission, human breathing alone today would output nearly the same amount of CO2 as all of the fossil fuel CO2 production in 1900. Which means population increase alone is going to cause global warming and the only solution is to stop population growth, actually we may need to reduce the world population.

I say we should be putting our efforts towards finding and increasing renewable resources so our country can be strong. Not going around taxing every company that produces CO2 and driving prices up so we must import everything.

Yes, Live Strong, at the core it's a 'people' problem. We all learned in elementary school about people putting out carbon for trees & plants and trees & plants putting out oxygen for people. We have to stike a balance...anything less is irresponsile. Yet the pope's message to the conference yesterday assumed no responsibility from him causing irresponsible breeding practices. He doesn't teach the need for condoms. He'd rather protest abortions, than prevent them. Consequently, there is poverty in Mexico and other 3rd world countries...cruel breeding of children they cannot feed. That should directly be the pope's responsibility, not the US taxpayer's. That IRresponsibility also causes the carbon spewing from over-populating. Yet he lectures about caring for the earth...what hypocrisy. But, nobody speaks up to him about poverty, molestation, or excess carbon. He's more the problem, than a solution.

We obviously need adequate power sources to support a world class economy, IF it's important enough to us to keep it. India would like to move up, so is building all-clean, carbon-free, nuclear power plants, as many smarter countries are doing. Solar and wind combined give us 2% of our power, because the technology is not here yet, and won't be in the next decade, maybe not the next, maybe never...but the lies continue. We can't carpet the earth with solar panels. Of course, we don't have to stay the world's economic leader (our decline has already started). Gore is crusading on 25-30 year old info he learned from his teacher he zealously (ignorantly) follows, to our detriment.Like Live Strong said, THIS decade is cooling, that's why they are trying to hide the truth. But, should we ever decide to act like intelligent, OBJECTIVE informed Americans and adopt more nuclear power plants, we can easily supply all our needs. France uses nuclear for 80% of it's supply. India and China are both moving forward, leaving us in their dust...I hope enough of us wake up before we're all speaking Chinese & Indian, with only our elders remembering English from when we were world leaders. Or, like lemmings, following the limited thinking zealots over the cliff. We should be exploring all the possibilities, first focusing on proven nuclear. I hope we wise up before many more future Trillions are spent on the current restricted folly of the green gestapo.

Judy - you used the "N" word...nuclear. Don't you realize that the nuclear technology from 40 years ago caused some major problems??? How could we possibly use nuclear energy today? Besides the fact that every US sub/ship for the last few decades has used nuclear power without incident. And the technology today puts the risk of nuclear problems close to zero. But if we allowed nuclear energy , then "the man" wins.

Come on Live, you know Irresponsible breeding i.e. lack of CONDOM use CAUSES poverty....lack of CONDOM use causes abortions. I guess IF the pope really cared about poverty, abortion, or carbon air, he would be instructing his flock on the responsible use of condoms. Fewer people, less carbon in the air.
But, you're a defender, so you're not really serious either.

Barb, you obviously have an axe to grind about Catholics and the Pope in particular, but this is not the thread to spew your hatred.
Ignorant and irresponsible people 'cause' abortions, not the Pope or a piece of latex.
What religion do you espouse that condones the murder of the unborn?

At this morning he's selling out Americans. You can afford another BILLION $$$$ per year commitment to 'help' China and emerging countries that will be 'cooling' by reporting a 'snow job' to dumb sucker Americans that tolerate these expenditures and lies.
...a sad day for America

I'm very confused why the Pope is responsible for population control in Mexico...shouldn't the Mexican people and/or government be responsible? First off the Pope only leads by suggestion...there are no punishments (fines/jail/etc) for thsoe who do not follow the Pope.

I am finding it extremely disconcerning that you really beleive that religous leaders are responsible for poverty, global warming and economic crises.

my neighbor has solar cells on his roof. I'm wondering if his house catches fire, will the neighborhood have to be evacuated due to the materials ending up in the air?
By the way, some of you are behind the times, its not global warming, its climate change just like its not illegal alien, its undocumented citizen(just a paper snafu)

Good point, keeping up. They got caught on global warming....cause it's not warming at the moment. But it's 'full speed ahead' as we are being forced to carry out the dictates of a few. I just finished watching How the World Was Created, for the second time this week. Fascinating watching all the previous 'warming' and ' cooling' periods. Grand Canyon was under ocean water, etc. Of course these things take millions & billions of years, with little blips for a few hundred years UP, then dips down for a few hundred years. Yet, the the obessions of these current ignorant zealots is about a few decades !!! Like sheep we sit here allowing these fools to destroy our economy, and write laws that will forever more make US a 3rd world country....sucking our workers dry. Forcing us to spend billions on countries that are charging ahead of us economically. Just sit here as our own rulers are destroying us.
