Ryan Gordon Alumni Soccer Games

Original post made by Curt Gordon, Heritage Oaks, on Dec 15, 2009

Foothill and Amador High School Alumni will be playing in the 7th Foothill-Amador Alumni Soccer Games on Sunday, December 27th. There will be 2 games featuring Men’s and Women’s soccer players from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s. Each game will be divided into periods for the “older” players and the “younger” players.

The games have become an annual event that benefit the Soccer Programs at Foothill and Amador High Schools. All gate receipts ($7 adults and $4 students) and Snack Bar proceeds will go directly to the programs.

The teams will be playing for trophies that will be awarded to the schools of the winners. The winning school will gain possession of the trophies each year. Games during the 1st six years featured victorious teams from both Amador and Foothill.

Ryan Gordon was a 2003 graduate of Foothill High School. He was killed in a boating accident shortly after graduating. He played soccer at Foothill for 4 years and was planning on attending Santa Barbara City College where he planned to continue playing soccer. The original Alumni Games were organized to fund a scholarship that benefits a graduating member of the Foothill Women’s or Men’s soccer team who aspire to play soccer in college. Since the 1st year all proceeds go directly to the Men’s and Women’s soccer programs at the two high schools.
If you are an ex-soccer player from Amador or Foothill and would like to play, you can get more information and/or register at All-Star Sports. Another way to register is to download an application from the Amador Website ( and mail it to Curt Gordon, 205 Heritage Lane, Pleasanton, Ca. 94566 There is a $20 fee to play. The deadline to register is Thursday, December 24th.

Players and fans are invited to the “Hop Yard Alehouse” after the games. 15% of proceeds will be donated to the programs.

There will be “special entertainment” during each of the halftimes this year!

We think of Ryan often. He often comes up in our pictures and our stories, whether playing sports together, riding BMX bikes, or catching pollywog's in the creek, for my boys Ryan will always be a part of their growing up in Pleasanton.

The annual Foothill and Amador Alumni soccer games are such a nice tribute to Ryan and our great soccer town. This year the games will be at Foothill, Women play at 2:00 pm, and the men play at 4:00. We will sign up players at the game, but it helps to register early if you can.

We look forward to seeing all the familiar faces, and invite the younger kids and their parents to come out to enjoy the home town rivalry, and to support Pleasanton's high-school soccer programs. Pleasanton is such a special community and thanks for coming out. Thanks Julie, for your warm memories of Ryan.

Player Sign-Ups continue to be strong. Over the last 6 years we have averaged over 85 players. Pre-Game ticket sales are over $2500. See you there Rain or Shine!
