The 2010 EdSource Forum will be held Friday, March 19 at the Marriott Hotel in Santa Clara, California. The program will run from about 9 AM to 3 PM.

Crisis or Opportunity—which is it? In California, it is usually both! This past year was certainly one of the worst in terms of the global economic and state fiscal crises. The impact on public education has been hard and the worst may be yet to come. Even so, a recent TIME magazine cover story reminds us that "California will be back...it is still the dream state...it's still the home of the ‘new thing,' a state of early adopters...people filled with ideas and energy and a never-give-up attitude."

The 2010 EdSource Forum will address both the state's crisis and its opportunities.

Mac Taylor, California's Legislative Analyst, will present the latest on California's budget crisis and projections for 2010-11, federal stimulus funds, and how the situation is affecting public education.

Forum attendees will be among the first to hear the results of a landmark study by EdSource and faculty at Stanford University, on the California middle grades practices that seem to differentiate schools with higher student performance.

In a first-ever presentation, California Community Colleges Chancellor Jack Scott will join Martha Kanter, Under Secretary for the U.S. Department of Education, in a moderated discussion about the links between K-12 and community college, and the challenges and opportunities facing community colleges as they work to improve student outcomes in an era of reduced resources.
