Republicans at it again

Original post made by Phil, Downtown, on Jul 10, 2009

The Republicans can't stop looking clownish.

"Republicans will call two New Haven firefighters to testify in the confirmation hearings of Sonia Sotomayor next week, making clear the GOP's intent to place affirmative action at the center of Senate battle over Sotomayor's nomination."

Yeah, these two guys will really contribute substance to a discussion about the United States Supreme Court. But more importantly, Sotomayor is all but guaranteed confirmation. So why are the Republicans making a big show of a divisive race issue? Oh yeah. They're race-baiters and they're rolling out the Southern Strategy again. Got it.

How come you believe it's a southern strategy?

Racism is pervasive in the US.

I see nothing wrong with allowing the American people to hear from these firemen.

"So why are the Republicans making a big show of a divisive race issue?"

Simple: to allow the American people to see how social engineering operates.

The truth has an amazing knack for finding its way to sunlight. It can't be stopped or suppressed.

Affirmative action is giving preferential treatment to those that don't deserve it - just because you look a certain way doesn't give you the right to step on those that are more qualified because you cry loudly enough. The Hispanic and White applicants scored higher than the Blacks...PERIOD. Who do you want putting out the fire at your house??

I hope when liberals have a heart attack they all have to go into a state-run ER and get seen by an affirmative action graduate.

I'll stick with my private health insurance and get seen by the top doctor I can find.

The Republicans are calling the two firefighters for political reasons, not for race reasons and this should be pretty clear to most.

And, when you have Louis Freed, former head of the FBI, supporting Ms. Sotomayor and Sen. Lindsey Graham voting for her, then where does this put so-called experts like Limbaugh and O'Rielly? In the tank, I think.

Mike, I beg to differ with you. The Republican Party doesn't expect it's "members" to be in lock-step with every party belief. It just doesn't. Lindsey Graham may like Sotomayor, but a Conservative like Rush or an Independent like O'Reilly don't have to agree with him.

I'm a Conservative, registered as a Republican, and I think Sotomayor is a terrible choice for Supreme Court Justice.

I can't believe how blind Americans are. No one dares to question any minorities now. Any questioning gets interpreted as an attack on their ethnic, racial or gender state. This is totally ridiculous! If Sotomayor is White and Male, this is fair game... being a minority (PR and Female), it's not ok to question the nomination. How far do we have to swing to get the BEST candidate for the job? Remember this is a job for LIFE not just 4 years and through the dummy out. Are the American ready to live by the blindness of their decision? One MUST BE ALLOWED TO QUESTION without having the race, ethnic or gender stigma be brought up. As someone said, if you write up the qualifications without any pictures or names, would you vote for this candidate. This IS the LITMUS test. It's not about lets do the politically right thing but do the right thing for this country! Now with that out of the way, I am NOT WHITE... I am a minority (and U.S. citizen and proud of it!) and I strongly feel that Americans have gone to the deep end in terms of how to select the BEST candidate for anything. Americans have to wake up and smell the coffee or tea but not happy flowers!

It is all about RACE and R A C I S M.

Sotomayor will be confirmed so get over yourselves. She will be a GREAT justice!

I only hope that THOMAS doesn't interrupt his advances in jurisprudence to make another kind of advance...Sotomayor is after all single!

Cholo, she may look attractive to you, but having seen her, no one will be making advances, not even Ginsberg.
