Evangelists Down Town TONIGHT 6:30

Original post made by Jon, Danbury Park, on Jul 9, 2009

According to the website, the "Jesus Freaks" will be downtown by Tully's tonight after 6:30.

I have a thought or two.

Why don't all the Christians come down and listen for a half hour and come back and tell us if you still think this is appropriate for a family atmosphere.

Why don't those that oppose these guys go down and make some noise of their own!

Just looked at the web site. I saw the following:

"YOU are a very sick son of satan! You follow after allah, which is satan!Your mohammed was a false prophet deceived my satan!mohammed is now burning for eternity in hell, and so will you unless you REPENT and accept JESUS CHRIST as your Lord and Saviour. As for your quron, burn it ,it is not fit to wipe your backside with!It will lead you straight to hell!"

And so many "Christians" admire these street preachers! perhaps the conservatives that voted Bush in for two terms, REALLY supported Bush's revelation to invade Iraq and do GOD's work? Perhaps, what these "Christians" wrote on their web site is acceptable to some? Perhaps that is why so many "Christians" support the war in Iraq?

If I was with any number of my middle eastern friends and their children downtown and these guys yelled this type of crap out, it would be very hard not to punch them in the face or spit on them.

They should be ashamed of themselves. This type of "christian" thinking and speaking is truly SICK! Vulgar! Pathetic!

don't know where you're from Jack, but theirs a just words. Whether they would be killed or imprisioned in your friends countries for speaking what they believe, i cannot say, but you spitting or punching them in this country, just say alot of Americans would have a real problem with that.

Cholo and others,

Watching the link Cholo posted, where there was a major confrontation with the preachers, the preacher is saying in the end of the video, over and over again " I am Jesus Christ" "I am Jesus Christ"

What a pathetic, sick, demented soul!

He is Jesus christ, right!

Wow. I just watched the videos Cholo posted - both Cholos.

I find myself wondering why people on the threads about the street preacher seem to be up more upset about the "preacher" than about the small mob of screaming, cursing and spitting young people. Some on this forum continue to encourage others to confront the "preacher" and "make some noise of their own".

Maybe the "preacher" on the first video isn't the same preacher that some have seen downtown, but I sure didn't hear any racist or gay commentary during that particular video.

I don't profess to be a "Christian". I believe "Christianity" has been hijacked by hypocrites. I have yet to find a church whose preacher didn't say "send your money to God, just be sure to use my (church's) address". The Bible is a great collection of stories written and edited by man (emphasis on man, since many books were omitted, including those written by women).

I say this so you'll understand that, while I believe in a higher power, I'm not particularly religious. That said, there was nothing actually offensive about what the "preacher" was saying - really, it was just one more (loud) person's view of their beliefs.

I did, however, find the actions and comments from the people surrounding the "preacher" in the second video uncalled for and offensive. That's what you get when you invite people to a confrontation and tell them to "make some noise" - mob mentality and actions.

Community of Character? If these two videos are any indication, it looks like maybe we need to work a little more on self-discipline, compassion and respect.
