BART riders warned to prepare for strike, but date not certain

Bay Area transportation officials are urging BART riders to plan alternative methods of getting to and from work in the event of a strike by the system's employees.

"Management's goal is to find $100 million in labor savings to help balance the budget, the bulk of which would come in the form of diminished health and pension benefits."

These unions are ready to go on strike, during an historic recession, over benefits and generous pensions while the public will be paying a 6% fare increase with no real choice in the matter. But it's for the BART riders!

They are testing the waters, and losing in the court of public sentiment. I suspect at the end of the day they will back down and there will be no strike.
