Border Controls Enough? Texas Senator Warns of World War Z

"What good does doubling our border patrol do in 2017, when World War Z is likely to happen between now and then?" asked the Senator. "This gives every person of Mexican heritage hell-bent on doing stoop labor in the U.S. an opportunity to crawl over the fence before 2017,"
Senators Bob Corker (R-TN) and John Hoeven (R-ND) gave reassurances on Thursday that their amendment would enact tough border security provisions before any legalization of new immigrants could occur. The provisions of the amendment include 20,000 additional border patrol agents, 700 miles of fencing, and an E-Verify system for immigrant workers before new immigrants could receive green cards.
Senator Cruz objected that the promises are trumped by “loopholes that are snuck into” the amended immigration bill. Cruz said the border security provisions are “designed” to be ineffective in a press release sent out Friday evening. "How high are our fences now? Ten feet? Well, show me a ten foot fence and I'll show you an eleven foot ladder. Our fences need to be at least 40 feet high because science shows ladders can't reach beyond 36 feet."
The Texas senator was especially piqued by the assurance that our Border Patrol would be doubled. "Adding 20,000 new agents that do little but stare at dirt all day long is a far cry better than supplementing meals on wheels, that's for sure. But if we want to waste money on this largely symbolic effort to keep needed Mexican immigrant laborers out of this country, we might as well triple or even quadruple the number. As the most powerful country in the world, we should have border agents stationed every 50 feet across the 3000 miles of U.S.-Mexico borderland," stated the senator. "Maybe then, when other countries see our capability for flagrant waste while our kids go to bed hungry, they'll appreciate just who we really are as a people."
